  • Yeah, I think you're safe. Context is everything.

  • Got egged on the way home down Can Hall Road in Leytonstone. Didn't even see where it came from - luckily it only hit me on the arm. Still a lovely ride.

  • Not a commute exactly (meeting my wife from work) but I was smug about getting joint fastest today up Bristols Park st on Strava. For a few minutes anyway, until joint fastest guy did it again 2 seconds faster. Bet he had gears though...

  • Oh my fuck. New job this week means no biking until I've settled in and worked out the logistics of wearing a suit. I have forgotten how bad commuting on trains really is; on my first day I left myself an hour and a half to do a 15 min journey: end up having to make 5 changes cos the Thaemslink was knackered and only just made it. Everyday is super packed, late and mega stressful.

I take back what I said a while ago about giving up cycling cos of the danger.

  • Drivers using the cycle lanes really pisses me off so made someone back up 200 yards and rejoin the road. She took my photo too will be lulz if she reports it to the police.

  • Did she ask for your detail? would be interesting to see what the police will said to her.

  • Got her phone out and took my photo before driving off. Police might launch a manhunt if she can make it sound like she was attacked by an angry cyclist which would be rather hilarious.

edit - cab drivers have found the retweet+slag uber button

  • Fella on his Harley got beeped by London cabbie, for taking prime and not going fast enough through Walworth this morning. Harley fella calmly pointed out the 20 mph sign on the road. Cabbie got annoyed, overtook with junction and pinch point coming up, tried to get ahead using the bus lane and got caught. Harley dude pottered past in smug mode.

  • Bright but gusty... like your girlfriend's knickers.

  • My new pet hate - peds that start crossing thinking that they've judged your line well enough to let you past just before they get to your line.

Bonus points for converging peds - one from each side - creating an ever-decreasing gap.

It's like they don't think this is difficult enough...

  • Woman slowly RLJing through a junction with a seatpost so high she had to adopt a 'pissing dog' stance every time she needed to put a foot down ... quite funny to watch.

  • I should have done and normally do, can't explain why I didn't on that day, just wasn't really thinking about it. I think he went to overtake not noticing the traffic island then went for it anyway rather than stopping, he was close enough for his wing mirror to make contact with my shoulder (nothing major, but still indicative of how close he was). What made me so angry was that after this island there was nothing on the other sides, loads of room to overtake and a red light at the end of the road. There was absolutely no need to overtake there, he was just being a c**t. Also agree with the speed thing, it's a street crying out for a speed camera.

  • Wow, hard to see the driver was that close on the wide angle. No wonder you got upset.

I've been seething about speeds on Wickham for ages.

The desire for some drivers to pass bicycles needlessly seems pathological...

  • It's annoying he made contact (it was literally a brush, but apparently still counts) as the police say I need to report it as a road traffic collision rather than a close pass. That means court, witness statements etc, and it would never stand up given that you can't see anything from the camera, the other cyclist might back me up but seems like a load of hassle for a £50 fine and a slap on the wrist.

  • People get all pissy about cyclists jumping red lights, but peds are absolutely the worst

  • pedantic point, but peds can't jump red lights, not in a legal sense.

  • Well... the little red man thing then haha

  • I noticed some play in my pedals on the way to work this morning. Hopped off to see what it was and realised that the cranks were moving as if they were a little loose. Upon further inspection, they were firmly attached to the spindle but the DS BB cup has some movement. I had to carry on but it felt horrible.

I'm a bit concerned that the BB shell thread has been stripped. I'm nowhere near my tools so I'm going to have to find a LBS.

    Inconvenient/10

  • They can't jump that either! Peds are free to make use of the highway regardless of traffic signals.

  • LRMJ-ing?

Nah, I get that they have ultimate right of way and are the most vulnerable road users, but still... peds that don't wait for me to pass before they start crossing make me nervous.

  • Note the caveat, "in a legal sense". What you think they should do morally is up to you...

  • I've twisted a spindle riding around like that and not noticing!

  • I need to get it home/to a bike shop. It's times like this I realise how reliant I am on the bike for transport. My spares are in Bristol so I'm a bit unsure what I'll do for the next few days if I can't ride.

It's the BB shell I'm most worried about.

  • And if they are looking at their phone they also have a shield ,,, nothing can hit them.
