I don't see why not. Would probably have to make a speific time for it though. How about at the end of the Good Friday Open Day, after everyones finished the matches? About 10 ears ago (the last time the old polo bikes were working) we used to have a 1 lap le mans start race on them. Run across the grass, jump on a bike, and spin 1 lap on a 1:1 ratio!

BOOO! I missed the first one and I'm in the Netherlands for the second. Gutted. What days or times are beginner sessions, and do HH allow conversions?

@dbr - there is a website that answers all such noob FAQ questions.
For those without access to Google, try here www.hernehillvelodrome.com
It is possible to ride a converted road frame, but it is preferable to ride a track bike on the track.
For people wishing to ride a bike not designed for track riding, you'll have to check a your bike against the specifications logically located on the website - http://www.hernehillvelodrome.com/information/bikes
There are bikes available to borrow for the session though.
FYI this isn't the only time anyone can rock up and have a go at trying out the basics of track cycling, there is an induction session every Saturday at midday. This is probably the only time you can do it for FREE though.

Me too! May even have another go at rollapaluza and try and improve possibly the worse time ever recorded when I first had a go...having a go at track cycling looks ace too!
Must resist lure of bicycle jumble sale though!

Bah (have a lovely day everyone, I wish I could come down).

Typically, on the year the Good Friday meet moves indoors to Manc, it's predicted to be sunny and 24C at Herne Hill.
Looks like a great programme you've got lined up there

we haven't got as many vintage grass bikes ready as we'd have liked, the maximum will be 6...
We also hope to be showcasing our "off road" Rollapaluza rigs, with "contoured" rollers, and Surly 1x1 ss MTBS....
blog post including pic of semi-refurbed polo bike here: http://www.rollapaluza.com/blog/

I may be simple, but what's "contoured" about the MTB rollers?
Also, Winston, is that 'bent still at HH? I never got in touch with Caspar about borrowing it. Is that still cool? Maybe I'll grab it tomorrow if I can make it up there.
-
• #21
yes it is, yes you can..don't get it nicked is all I'm sayin'! do you have somewhere secure for it?...Caspar will be there tomorrow.
Try the rollers tomorrow and you will see.
-
• #22
will someone lend me a helmet if i come? mine is at my folks' house.
-
• #23
Sweet! And yeah, I'll treat her nicely. Secure = in my flat with my bikes.
And I don't like rollers. they make me feel sick. Must be some sort of allergy.
-
• #24
Polo players will have helmets. HH also has a bunch of helmets I'd hope they'd let people use.
