  • The most hellish thing I've done on the track is a 500m standing start, kind of puts me off the kilo but might as well give it a bash

It's far worse. If you do a kilo properly you won't be doing anything else afterwards except crying.

  • Re the programme, there'll be a scratch, devil, points, kilo, match sprints and 20km (not necessarily in that order). People will be given the choice of kilo or another race to make the programme possible. Fiddling with the order now.

Yeh, make sure the sprint events are separated, but you probably know that already

  • another last edit to the programme means the choice will be kilo or win out (no points race). sign up required for both match sprints and kilo.

will try to drop down to track this evening to distribute programme, as well as post it here

re separating the sprints - it's difficult with heats events to separate them completely but we've done what we can.

  • Good programme!
    See you there!

  • Yeah, IPs not really possible at an open meet which starts at 1430 without seriously compromising the program, you can do it with 6 up on the track but even so, it's a lot of organising. Might take 45-50 mins if 50 riders want to do it. Plus timers and holders at each station...

There are ways around it. i.e Good Friday used to have a 10 minutes pursuit with 8 stations (and at less serious events i see no problem with more than 8). If you make the race long enough so that most people get caught, and you enforce the 'you're out once you get caught' rule then you should only need 3 or 4 people with stopwatches as only 3 or 4 finish. holders aren't a problem and not many people are stupid enough to want to do a long pursuit in the middle of an open meet so it wouldn't take all day.

  • ^ that's starting to sound like the cycling equivalent of bumps racing.

Seeing how bumps racing was invented to allow huge numbers of rowers to race at once on narrow rivers, it might be a fun thing to copy on the track.

  • It's a popular game/race in training sessions but it's not a proper IP.

particularly sadistic when run as a "last man standing" exercise

  • Good programme shame I can't make it, and no way would I do a kilo in the middle of a meet and be able to race after!

  • Weather update: track is damp now but the sun's out and there's a breeze so as long as there's no more rain we'll have racing

  • good luck with the weather...have a great day....

I think HH is big and wide enough to do an 8 station pursuit if you have enough volunteers and stopwatches, 9 laps is 4050m, so close enough, or do 8 laps.......no need to knock people out when caught is there? surely everyone doing it will want to know their time?....I guess you'd probably have less than 8 people wanting to try and even two heats is only going to take 10-12 mins running time.

  • I'm not going to make it. Good luck everyone!

  • I'm not going to make it. Good luck everyone!

I don't think anyone expected you to - it's a race meeting afterall...

Anyway, still got an hour to go and the tracks almost dry.

  • yawn..

working on coaching paperwork instead, got L3 r&tt assessment at 0900 tomorrow. Thought I may as well do something constructive if I wasn't well enough to race.

  • Good day of racing... Thanks to Dulwich Paragon, and London Pheonix for organising!
Those illusive BC points keep evading me though!

Points to JC for for his impressive blood spraying skills.

Putney Cycles & C.S. Grupetto are hosting the next one on June 4th.... Ive heard rumours of flying 200's, and handicap sprints... And maybe even giant salami prizes!

  • Yep, good day. The kilo left me with jelly legs for ages.

  • Thanks for all those that came along and looked beyond the morning's rain.

  • Great day thanks guys

    • thought i got thrid in B devil (57)?

  • Yay 6th for kilo.

I don't envy you tom, for organising. You did a great job, the B devil became a bit of a nightmare, but it often is. Well done all, look forward yonthe next one.

  • Yeah, good job yesterday Tom, Alexand the rest of the Dulwich Paragon + London Pheonix gang. Devils can always be hard to get right, but it does remind everyone of what a hard job judges have, and hopefully to cut them a bit of slack.

The rest of the racing was great though, Match sprints were fun (I'm glad no-one went for a proper long one), the kilo was good for those who wanted to (not me!), and I heard a couple of the visiting riders saying that was one of the best 20k scratches they've done at Herne Hill. Its been a long time since a groups lapped the field.

I'm fine btw. A deep but small cut, I'll be back on the bike tomorrow hopefully. James Clark looked worse - fairly minor scrapes, but quite a lot of them. Was a shame to have to watch the last race on my back. What happened to all those photos - I want to see some!

  • Who took the lap?

  • Who took the lap?

To our shame, I don't think any of the Herne Hill regulars. Rob Kennison, Neil Cooper, another AW Cycles guy, Jake, and someone else I think.

  • Does anybody know the race schedule for Sat 4th June open season?

  • PM spagettihoops on here. He's the track secretary for the hosting club. I'll be volunteering in some capacity, but don't know any useful details yet.
