• Use a very high grit 2000 from the bay if you can't get a bodyshop to give you some and plenty of water .. sounds a bit iffy but sanding carbon in the shower is good as the running water takes the dust away. All you need to do is matt / finely scratch the glossy clearcoat. If you go too far and the dust turns from White to Black you're sanding carbon and then will have to respray in clear coat to protect the carbon.

  • belt sander obviously

  • Thanks Oswald, I will try that.

I'm really keen to get this pair built up as the front 60mm has the new braking surface- which will make it to the 50mm superlights in time apparently.

    This^

I'd advise showering with all your carbon parts to build an intimate trust.

  • How about matt lacquer from a rattle can over the top of the existing lacquer?

Mask the brake track and then spray it, sounds easier than showering with the rim!

  • use a scotchbrite pad. purple or dark green should do it.

  • Are those best used wet or dry in your experience?

  • either, wet will not clog but dry means you can see it matt-off better.
try wet first and if it's easy to see the matt/shiny areas when wet do it that way.
you are less likely to get flat spots with a pad.

How come you're not having the 88mm upfront?

    Road or track wheels?

  • 88mm rear, 60mm front- constant downhill.

    These will be road wheels.

  • Finally got my rim today, looks schweeet. Shallower than I thought for some reason. Just needs some spokes, a valve extended and some pads and I can get it built

  • Yeah- it's funny that, 50mm rims look pretty normal.

    Must go deeper!

  • 60mm clincher is the only I can go next

  • BTW getting Conti Competitions on is quite exciting.

  • 60mm clincher is the only I can go next

I might be tempted to some 60mm clinchers on disc hubs at some point next year.

  • That looks ace, how did you get the matt surface I'm the end?

  • Pictures are of the 50mm's, which came like that. They look pretty cool, I think, black hubs/spokes/rims.

I followed MrSmyth's advice and ordered some Scotch Brite Maroon pads- I'll rub down the glossy 88mm with them when they arrive.

Then, I'm in two minds- thinking that I'll probably unlace the first wheelset and reuse the hubs, build up the 60/88mm pair on those and reuse the tubs as well.

This is mainly as I don't see the point in having two 50mm wheelsets.

  • you might've posted it already dammit but do you have a link for your new wheels? they're well nice.

  • They come from www.farsports.cn

  • I'd find the link but for some fucking reason Virgin blocks their website.

  • paying myself today - must resist urge to buy carbon wheel things

  • I think it's slightly too matt now, but it's a much better match than it was.
