  • If you like Twin Peaks then the Diane podcast is v good

  • Fans of The Offensive will undoubtedly be aware of Jackie The Ripper, but for the others, it is a comedy retelling of a modern, female Jack the Ripper, who is "de-bollocking"victims in Whitechapel.
Same voice cast as The Offensive so gets a bit confusing when you listen to one, then the other.
    I like it.

  • Really enjoying this year's Reith Lectures.

  • Thanks for the reminder to subscribe to the Reith lectures.

I've been enjoying listening to Democracy at Work / David Harvey's anti-capitalist chronicles podcast. Lovely series of talks or lectures that build over time into a coherent picture.

  • Doomsday Watch is good. Episodes on current geopolitical flashpoints. Topics like Putin, Saudis etc

  • Would like some suggestions for UK based podcasts, preferably not one hosted by men. Too much American dude energy in my library at the moment.

  • Birthday girls house party is fun but annoying, cuddle club is good, grief cast depending on your mindset, wheel of misfortune is great.

  • The spark

Also this one in particular goes some way to explaining the dude energy.

No longer on, so some of it may be dated, but late night women's hour was good.

  • Thanks for the suggestions @snottyotter and @hugo7. Prompts another issue I've found with UK podcasts though - they're all made by the BBC and seem to have the same rotating cast of mid-tier celeb comedy guests. I'm looking for something a bit more ... niche or DIY, I guess?

  • Hi,
I found I was listening to too many male hosted/male dominated podcasts.
'Niche' cricket podcast hosted by two England female professional cricket players?

  • mid-tier celeb comedy guests

I like all these people so that does help with liking the podcasts. Mid-tier comedy celeb Brett Goldstein has his own film podcast which is great, he's not a very manly man and has a lot of female guests on, only about half of which are mid-tier comedy celebs, the more recent episodes have a fair few higher tier American comedy and acting celebs since all Americans fell in love with Ted Lasso.

  • another issue I've found with UK podcasts though...

This is because podcasts are basically just Americans coming up with Radio 4 / TWS in the 2000s and then getting it sponsored by mailchimp.

Here you can actually get employed by someone to do it professionally rather than in your bedroom.

  • 🙌

  • Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but Chatabix by Joe Wilkinson and David Earl is enjoyable, but also often shambolic with audio issues.

  • Posted it in the conspiracy thread as I'd just caught a bit and thought it might interest people. But I'm now on esp4 and getting really into it.

    The Coming Storm on R4:
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/series/m001324r

Deep dive into the story of Q Anon, but going into the origins of the various story elements that made it up. Proper well produced programme that builds. Not a couple of people chatting in their cupboards.

  • I've heard bits of this by chance on the radio.. Thanks for the link as I meant to listen properly rather than pause as I walked through the kitchen for a fag outside.

  • Barry Cryer with son and Guests. I like it

  • My new favourite is The Rest is History

Two historians, one classical, the other modern chat about a different topic each episode. Sometimes with a guest. Both are published authors and know their stuff
It's nicely informal, they take the piss out of each other and have some interesting angles.

  • NP.

I didn't the same, but actually listening to it properly found it's really engaging.

  • I started listening to this on your recommendation. Not disappointed

  • I am a big fan of Battersea ghost story and Uncanny from Danny Robbins so I’ll be giving Kraken Cove a listen too

  • Chatabix

    Thanks!

  • Any other 'Coded Hardline Centrists'?

  • Nice tip - did hoover this up. Now onto the Lazarus heist which is also good
