  • I've got some interesting developments for the meeting. Also more reasons for making the date in May.

I think May 7th is the one.

  • Bloody students!

  • Can't make it on thursday but got all the info for you plus emails for sponsors, also council will rent you the space outside the sailing club by the old pier for cheap to promote sport and stuff - you just need barriers and insurance

  • Warning! Small wall of text approaching! I don't possibly mean to speak for everyone but if I use "we" in a situation you don't agree with then let me know and I'll include you out next time :)

The Brighton polo experience isn't the same as London. We play once a week for enjoyment and we have a good laugh too. I don't think that we want to get all serious on it and make a bid for the World Champs just yet, as exciting as it would be to host such an event. I would think of a tourney here more as a fun thing that we could do to generate a bit of buzz, both for our own polo scene and the game at large. I suppose at this stage I'd just like some new players and to have the ability to form a league in the future. If that's not enough to get on the stage of world polo then so be it.

Whilst your comments are appreciated flickwg (Seb?) you don't play polo with us. I've seen you twice in the whole year since I started. It grinds me a little bit that you state your case so matter of factly and imply that our ideas (the Brighton polo players') are under-ambitious - not to mention your final words about us "wanting to represent" and "needing training" could be construed as a bit rude. We make no claim to be able to throw down with the guys in other scenes and I was on two teams that were squarely beaten in the two tourneys we entered last year. I'm not bitter, I'm still a beginner and it made me want to improve. You could write this all down to a lack of seriousness and committment but, it's a game I enjoy, not work. If you think you can do better then please do, our group is not in anyway a clique or a gang, and we would welcome your knowledge, ambition, skill and above all your participation.

I'd say that Brighton Polo is still very much in its infancy. We're gonna try for a bit of a recruitment push over the summer and hopefully that combined with the general rise in awareness of the game might see the scene develop. A small scale tournament would be great as a first try, I'm stoked to still be playing the game and even more stokederererer to be able to put on a fun event for people.

    See you on the court!

  • Diceface's post has made me think I really have to give polo a try, enough of just saying it, I will actually come along and try it and stop being totally flakey!

  • See you all tonight - 8pm @ Rose hill Tavern for preliminary discussion and neccessary actions.

  • See you there.

  • Alas, I cannot attend the meeting tonight. I'm always busy on Thursday nights now, I'm afraid. I do, however, trust you guys to conflab constructively and know that I'm on board for when the real work begins.

  • BTW - Paul currently has plenty of free time and can take on any more jobs which people are too busy for/new jobs we haven't though of yet.

  • I'm care and fancy free so throw some jobs my way if you like!

  • i'm so excited not to pass to paul in a tournament!!!!!

  • How are we organising these teams then?

  • the final decision was draw straws.or we should just put all our names in a hat and then pick the teams based on that.swaps are allowed if everyone agrees on the swap as we know some people are more comfortable playing with others.

  • Pick your team. With their agreement, I put down Liam, Julian and I as Brighton A.

  • You'd better pick a better name than that....

  • The name is being worked on. I don't want to fall out with anyone over team selection but I just couldn't be happy with a random team then swaps. In my mind, this would lead to people obviously being traded away because you didn't want to play with them - not very sporting or nice.

  • Who else needs a team?

    TIm
    Thom
    Josh
    Chris
    Rich
    Blaze
    Sean
    Steve?
    Danny

    Who am i forgetting?

  • UoB polo is up on the list, I assumed you had put down a team already.

  • I'm just getting a list of everyone who needs a team.

The reason UoB polo is up is because it looks good i we're getting uni funding.

(still need to clarify if we need this)

  • Right, beds.

Who can offer to put up 6 french players?

I am going to put up
    'Team Warin' 3 beds

As well as any other Bristolians.

  • I might be able to offer camping, but I am quite a few miles out of town. Might not be an option if they want to stay out on the piss all night after the comp, or if the weather's not too clever. What is the plan for entertaining our guests anyway?

Teams. Don't really mind who I end up with. I'm aware that I'm the 'newbie', and by default the least experienced, but I hope that I've managed to play well enough during our Sunday sessions so that I'm not selected to play left back...in the changing rooms?! I'd prefer to play with folk who have been able to play a fair bit recently, for no other reason than I know everyone elses pro's and con's, and vice versa. Hope that hasn't come across in a negative way?

Jobs. I'm happy to help out with whatever needs doing, but I do work full time and I'm not in town so logistically I may not prove that useful. I do however have the landy, loads of tools, and I'm pretty good at building stuff. More than happy to help with the wood collection and board erecting/dismantling/moving etc. Any good?

  • Should be able to fit some people up in my yard, will be a selection of soafas/matresses/maybe beds etc. But the house is massive so no shortage of floor space.

  • I can also house a couple of people, due to 2 sofa beds in my living room. 1 team will prolly be enough to fill my lounge up, what with bikes etc.

Chris, wood collection is defo needed as there's no way we'll be able to shell out for new ply. I'll go and look in some skips and bins for it as well.

Seriously, team selection shouldn't be this hard. It prolly won't matter anyway as you'll have your ass handed to you before you even reach the ball at the joust. By this I mean the London dudes that I've played against are very very good and I'm less than optimistic about a home win...
