  • what about if it is one giant map?

  • Of the whole world?
On my device I have 4 or so maps, UK, Majorca, Europe, and the world wide basemap.
Depends where i am to which map is active.

  • its one map of UK/France for London to Paris.

  • Turn off the world basemap and just have your UK/France map active.

  • Not that I'd recommend it (although I gather the touchscreen is better now) but the Edge 820 is now going for £141 in anticipation on the 830 being announced. Beginning to look like the new ELEMNT is being readied too.. (both have popped up on the FCC site)

  • Does anybody have the Linux zip file for TCXConverter?

  • I think I need/want a new computer. My only Garmin previously was an Oregon which I've used without hitch on the bike, but not to do anything complex.

I now live up the road from an outdoor velodrome, which I'd like to start using to get a bit fitter. Can any of the bike specific units be used to give a structured track workout, and is there any additional fitness programme that can be followed/tracked using one? A bit like swift/trainer road but IRL.

My other option might be a watch like the fenix 5x plus Bluetooth headphones to give audio cues.

Edit, looks like you can set up a custom plan with Connect? The 830 looks pretty ace. Will have to research more to justify it to myself!

  • Blimey, replacing a ten year old 705 with a 530 is quite a leap. I've figured out the necessities, including getting it talking to my Di2 - swapping pages using the hood buttons is gonna be very handy.

Only thing I'm struggling with is the gear info, which seems to think I'm using an 11-23 cassette and I can't figure out how to change it to 11-28. Wondered if it was getting the cassette specs from the Di2, but it's all showing correctly in the e-tube android app. The chainrings are right, but I'm assuming that's just coincidence.

It's not something that I need, but still annoying me that it's wrong.

  • if you're not using the 705, I would be interested in buying it from you! ta

  • I must admit I thought the Garmins only displayed which number on the cassette you were in. IE 1 or 2 or 3 etc.
If you enable syncro shift on Di2 you set the actual cassette ratios in the e-tube app which then updates the system on the bike so it can calculate how to select the next gear inch you are going up or down the gear inch range (sorry for wording tried but failed to make it clearer).

  • Do it on the Garmin.

Go to the Di2 sensor, select sensor settings and you can manually select the cassette range.

  • Must've been literally the only place I didn't look. Thanks!

  • A colleague was interested in it, but if that doesn't happen I'll let you know.

  • Do you really want a 705? They have various very odd ways of working and I never found a way to keep the dynamo charging in the wet. But I do love my various retro GPS so I have a spare 705.

This is a refurbed unit I bought from Garmin quite some time ago as a replacement; whether this unit was the replace for the water ingress or another I forgot.

This like new but not working unit is at a technically minded friend as it just started cutting out power and is not charging anymore (which I attributed to some loose connection) shortly after I received it from Garmin. I used my 800, found another 705 and my friend never interested enough to give a repair a go (he uses Etrex).

If you confirm you are technically minded and won’t whinge if you can’t get it to work, I could be bothered to pick it up from friend and at £35 can post it second class signed for.

  • hey,
I do really want a 705, but a fully working one.
    thanks for offering.

  • Anyone got a 26mm out-front mount going spare, suitable for an 800?

  • My 520 has started giving me battery low warnings at around 4hrs. Backlight and Bluetooth are off, navigation is on, and the only sensors I have are HR and power.

That's not normal is it? I swear I used to get 7/8hours without trying. I've barely used the thing since new

  • How long ago is new? Improperly stored batteries (i.e. stored outside of proper storage voltage, I'd say about 60%) can degrade severely without usage.

  • Whenever it came out. It's probably only had one use a month in the last year though. Aren't they Li-ion?

  • Right, they are. Not sure what proper storage protocol is in that case. I do know that both my and my father's ForeRunner 610's batteries had gone to shit after a long period of inactivity.

  • Got one you could have for a tenner? Drop me a DM if interested - New Cross / Clerkenwell

  • how do you get this stopwatch thing at the top of the screen on an etrex??

  • This may be custom firmware.

  • Choose data field "Timer" or similar? Want me to have a play with mine tonight? #euphalert

Or have a look for Stopwatch feature in the main menu.
