It's rare that a mainstream paper does a more accurate review than most of the specialist cycling press but here is one..

Second ride with my wahoo elemnt. 82.5mi with turn by turn navigation (route created on rwgps). Left it on the whole time, so on for about 6 hrs, ended up with exactly 50% battery and didn't do anything weird or go wrong once.
Fuck Garmin.
On that note, anyone interested in a Garmin 510?

Backlight on or off?
-
• #4308
Off.

My Garmin 1000 is going in the bin. Utter piece of shit.

The Garmin now suddenly seemed complicated and problematic after using the Wahoo in the recent 7 months.
It's just insane, it's like going from a British Leyland car to a Honda.
-
• #4311
Other than water ingress, mine is actually pretty good.
Garmin's famous consistency...

£ on 510?
-
• #4313
Looks like a mate (off-forum) is buying it, but I'll let you know if not!
-

Nah mines frozen a few times now, getting worse. It is 3y old now to be a little fair.
And the power button rubber cracked so it's unusable. I had to cut it off and now push the actually circuit board button. -

Wahoo mapping isn't good enough for me.
-
• #4316
That sounds well dodgy. Send it back and get it fixed you muppet.
I still don't get why mine calculates a 'return to start' when I split a route in RWGPS. It'll be a 200k section and the Garmin will go 'calculating' and then tell me it's 380k to the finish! Because the stupid thing has a dead straight line going from some random point back to the start. It gets a bit flakey when you meet said random point. Normally it just recalculates but it has restarted a few times before.

Yeah, I have been meaning too. but they won't do a straight exchange, so I have to be without it for a bit, so I've been putting it off.
Yeah mine does that too. I'm going to email hammerhead and see if they'll give me one of their new units!

• #4318
Do you want to borrow my 800 while yours is getting fixed?
-
• #4319
Let me see how my 'discussion' with garmin goes. If I do need then I'll drop you a message, thanks.
-
• #4320
Is it prone to crash like the 800 at any time over 200km?
-
• #4321
The 1000? No.
Even my 800 only did that once but the 1000 is much more stable. It was on for 40+ hours on the weekend.

Fair play to garmin.
For £70 they sent me a new (refurb unit) garmin, to replace my 3 year old one that was being shit. Plus for £10 extra, I had the old one collected yesterday and new one arrived today via UPS.

I can't turn my 820 off- anyone know how I can force it to turn off?
-
• #4324
A hammer should work
-
• #4325
Yes.
My 810 had issues with non-Garmin maps. To be fair, the same piece of shit had issues with Garmin maps too but it was definitely flakier with OSM maps.
