Does anyone know what these two maps are on the Garmin Edge 1000?
Edge DEM Map EU 2014.10
Garmin Geocode Map EU 2015.10 -

DEM = Terrain elevations.
Geocode = Address searching. -

Thanks for the reply.
I need something battery powered to have as a backup.
I don't really care about money, saving a few quid isn't the plan. Just want something rock solid.Barometric altimeter seems useful for when hiking in the future.

Etrex 30 with something like the Eneloop pro rechargeable batteries are a good combination if you are going to use rechargeables.

So, I care not for elevations - I could lose that? I wonder if disabling either/both would speed it up a bit? Same as disabling or removing (if poss) the base map. Hmm

Thanks!

• #3483
I disabled all.maps except for.my Europe ones on SD card.
-
• #3484
I also disable everything except the route one.
Most software will correct elevations layer based on lat lon. And honestly, has Garmin find by address ever worked?
-
• #3485
Yes. Well, postcode search works. Much better than OSM which doesn't have the data unless you do some additional trickery which I don't have time for.

FUU my garmin 1000 keeps freezing when I load a tcx course from RWGPS.
WTF garmin.

• #3487
TCX? Why?
GPX ftw

• #3488
Still freeze.
Fuck this shit. I need to go somewehre.

• #3489

Bye hon

Get my etrex30x.
My nokia I had when I was 13 was faster with maps than this POS.
Why the fuck is there not a decent product on the market.

Apart from comfort, does anyone notice a difference between the old HRM1 and the newer monitors?
-
• #3493
You could've saved yourself a bunch of cash and bought my HCx for the same shit slow usage. :P
-
• #3494
It's like I bought a product from the 90's.
It's terrible. -
• #3495
Meant to be reliable though so when (not if) your 1000 packs it in, you might be counting your blessings.
-
• #3496
For sure.
And then my phone for when the Etrex packs in. -
• #3497
I'm expecting my phone to die before the etrex and I'm taking two other Garmins - fuck it, what's another 200g. Actually that was one thing I was going to look into more - a waterproof/shockproof phone. You have one don't you? But it's been shit or something. The new Samsung is waterproof apparently. I just don't want to ruin my current phone because I need it for work and stuff.

Yeah the motorola was crap.
Samsung is meant to be good, or nokia.I don't want to take a phone this year. But I will and just leave it at the bottom of my bag turned off, as it is useful in emergency for google maps services I need.

Ok, I've gone back a few pages and can't find a similar issue....
My Garmin has been crashing a lot in the last two rides. Yesterday it crashed, and when I turned it back on it crashed right away again. Noticed it was reading temperature as 33 degrees - the sun was shining but there's no way the ambient temp was much higher than 25. After putting the garmin in the shade for 15 minutes as I ate my sandwich and contemplated the nonsense that is not feeling your ride is complete unless Strava shows you all the stats, I started it up again and it was ok for the second half of the ride.
I'm gonna assume this is an overheating issue then. Is this a firmware thing?
Like the HCx I have sitting around gathering dust...
