  • Anyone want a 50% discount code for a Garmin 810? I've just bought a 1000 so it's of no use to me.

Works out as £160 for the unit only.

  • I've managed to kill the screen on my 500. What'll happen if I ask Garmin to repair it? A refurbished 500 for £75? Or am I looking at having to buy a new 520?

  • Just use your 800...?

  • I know. It's just the 800 won't last the week's commutes without charging and also doesn't fit on my stem. Neither a really big deal, but my 500 is perfect for everything it's used for. Namely logging all of my commuting miles on the fixed. If it's only £75 to replace it I probably will. If if means buying a 520, I probably won't.

  • Finally in the club!

  • Yep. Surprised no-one wants that discount code.

  • I'll take the code!

  • Been using the Fenix 3 for a few weeks now for running and cycling - initial impression is good, and the training management features could well be useful.

Time will tell but it feels solid and well thought out. Nice. Even the bluetooth / phone synch & control / smartwatch features are pretty neat.

Only minor point is that it won't control Spotify on iPhone. Shrug.

  • Anyone had some issues with the 510 detecting their HM, Speed and Cadence Sensor?

I've followed all the manual instructions and changed all the batteries on all the sensors and even restored the garmin to factory setting but it was still no good. Atm I've sent it back to garmin via evans cycles (hopefully it will be back in 4-6 weeks) very disappointing as I've only owned this for less then 3 months and so many faults has occurred.

Just wondering should I accept the repair and see how that pans out or just get a refund instead?

  • Really disappointed with the 810 after riding with it for about a week and a half. My primary reason for buying it was for navigation in areas which I'm not familiar with, planning a route and getting an update to keep you on track. Have tried this a few times and found that it repeatedly freezes and crashes. The only way to get it to work again is to reset, breaking up even the GPS tracking for the ride. This is with the official map pack. It turns out that this is no more effective than switching on strava in my pocket and a £20 speedo. Pretty disappointing for £290. Is there a fix? Am i doing something obviously wrong?

  • Just a thought, might it be something to do with the MicroSD card you're using?
Either not fast enough / high enough bit rate, or possibly with some corrupted data on it?
No idea if that could actually cause it but might be something to look at

  • Ah man sorry to hear that. Where did you buy it from?

Have a Google to find out how to do a master reset and give it a go. If it isn't perfect after that just return it for a replacement. You could mess about with garmin support but as you say for 300 quid it should just work!

  • Fuck. How quickly can Garmin process repairs? Racing on Sunday.

  • Someone linked to a page (I think it was on DC Rainmaker site) with a variety of programs/links for editing, fixing, uploading, etc GPX/FIT/TCX files.

I can't find it on here or on the DC Rainmaker site, anyone care to relink, cheers

  • That's the one cheers. Can't find it at all from the homepage on there

  • Have you sorted this? I am just about to stick my edge500 up on ebay as I am picking up a 520 today.

  • Ended up buying a new Edge 500, literally just arrived haha!

  • I sent mine back to Garmin. The unit they sent me back has been fine.

  • https://www.strava.com/activities/382724921 this is an indoor ride (on rollers) with the new separate speed and cadence sensor, do I need to do anything to calibrate the data. Speed seems way out.

  • Could it be possible that you have the sensors swapped around i.e cadence is measuring speed and vice versa?

  • Tbh riding on rollers that could well be correct. What gear were you in?

  • Well i checked wheel setting on bike details, because although it auto calibrates (i assume it uses GPS for this) it was set to 700*23, so changed to 700*25 for tonight's session.

    @skinny Gearing was 50*12

  • although it auto calibrates (i assume it uses GPS for this)

It does, but I guess it can't do that inside.

  • pretty sure the cadence was accurate though.
