Garmin 810 locked up whilst plugged into computer charging last night! So, not even moving or navigating or anything and the piece of crap still locks up.

• #2204
it has crashed I think 3 times for me.

It's probably gummed up with bluetack...
I may sacrifice a goat or something to try and appease the garmin gods ahead of this weekends ride. It is utterly ridiculous that these devices are so unreliable

My 800 is still pretty solid. I might return the 810 and get another 800.

Sorry man!

Roll back to an older, stable software release?

I maintain that killing it with guns and fire will solve the issue. Permanently.

Like what? It died using 3.40 and it dies using 3.60
-
• #2212
Now that is a good question. 2.something?
i never had lock ups before, then three in one ride last Sunday.

Jesus mate, you must have been given a mega dodgy unit! Just been reading the past few pages and seems like it's messing you around. Recently got an 810 the other day, went straight to 3.60 and haven't had any problems so far. Though I am yet to navigate using it.

Basically garmin release and sell products that they must know are not full working.
Sound about right.
Edge Touring seemed to work pretty well probably because they dumbed it down so much it actually work.

I can never remember this - what type of file do I want from RWGPS, TCX Track? GPX Route? Garmin 810.
-
• #2221
I think 'track' is the keyword. I think, but I could be wrong.
I've no idea what the use-case is for a 'route' which is basically like asking it to randomly navigate you between points, which given the quality of Garmin's routing, is like asking a bunch of cats that hate you to do your navigating for you.

Track. But if it's a cycle route use Strava, it's much better.
-
• #2223
Thanks both, wanted to nick a route from rwgps, just down in Winchester for the weekend.

Back - and if anyone is around Winchester I can't recommend this route highly enough - beautiful countryside, great and quiet roads: https://www.strava.com/activities/309970271

Does it die by just randomly turning off, without warning? That's what mine seems to like doing... So far only once on a longer ride but still very annoying...
