^^Anyone?
I just last night upgraded to Mavricks so i'll give that a go this evening.

You dont send the routes through garmin connect - it is just for syncing with the website. Routes still go in by putting it in the New Items folder.
IIRC

Thanks Croft. So I should be able to browse the device as it were in 'Finder' and drop routes in?
-
• #1080
Garmin Connect is one of the easier ways to get routes on to your Garmin. Navigate to the route you want and hit the 'send to device' button.
But yes, you can drop GPX or TCX files directly via Finder.
If Finder sees your Garmin though it's very odd that the Connect plug in does not.
I've been on Mac for aaaaaages and not had a problem with OS/X not being able to mount (fnar) Garmin - your Mac not being able to see it points towards a problem with your set up. I've read about people having issues because of other devices and softs they have plugged in or are running, so a bit of trial and error might solve the problem.

So, I've been playing with an Edge 1000. Verdict? Nice, but a bit pricey.
-
• #1082
I was tempted by the 1000. But it'd mean replacing all the Garmin mounts I have on my various bikes, which would be a major effort and expense. So I got an Edge 810 instead, to go with the Edge 800s.
One thing which made the decision easier was the fact that although the 1000 is 2cm longer, the screen is only 9mm longer, which seemed very little extra screen real estate for the extra cash and extra size of the unit.

^^^ Thanks Howard, I'll fiddling with my device this evening.

Replacement Garmin Forerunner 210 turned up. If it selectively starts forgetting my runs / rides I'm going to smash the shit out of it with a hammer made from fire.
-
• #1086
I often feel the need to destroy my garmin with fire.
Especially when that noise appears. -

My replacement Garmin 705 was very very odd as well for the first two to three hours to a degree where I raised a ticket to have it changed again under warranty. Now it it just nice.

Bit of an odd query, but wondering if anybody else has had their Garmin start measuring short? Spotted this week that my commute is apparently 15% shorter than it was six weeks ago...and we definitely haven't moved!
April 28th, 10.6 miles: http://www.strava.com/activities/142339405
June 4th, 9.2 miles: http://www.strava.com/activities/149509830
Appreciate that GPS recordings will always differ daily due to not following the exact same line but that's a big discrepancy. Any ideas anybody?!

Do you use the GSC sensor? and have you reset the unit, or changed wheel/tyre circumference value? or even put a bigger tyre on?
Basically I changed the tyre circumference value by accident before and it started adding about 20% to my rides.
-
• #1090
I will soon have 2 GSC-10 sensors going spare; pm me if keen
-
• #1091
I do have the GSC sensor, haven't deliberately reset anything but have just gone into the Garmin menus and seen it says that the tire circumference is set to automatic (1980mm) - not sure why, as think I set it as the 'generic' 2096mm when originally setting up.
This could explain why it's reading lower distances but I always thought the Garmin's recorded distance via GPS as opposed to the magnets on the wheel? Will report back...
-
• #1092
Nope, if you've got a GSC-10 then it'll use that to measure distance rather than GPS. I've found the Garmin automatic wheel circumference calculation to be pretty flaky in the past and have had the same thing happen to me. That's why I set my wheel circumference manually these days.
-
• #1093
I set mine manually too, it stays consistent at least.
-
• #1094
Well that could well be it then. The unit threw a hissy fit towards the end of the Great Escape audax, could well have reset itself then.
Be interesting to see if my journey to work tomorrow is suddenly a mile and a half longer once more!

Is it possible to stop on-road routing within Garmin BaseCamp? There's a bit of the route I want to use that's a bike path and the routing goes mental trying to send it over roads rather than the direct bike path.

If the route is not too long you could use the "direct" routing option.
Alternatively draw routes either side of the bike path, draw a track along the bike path then convert the routes to tracks and then join the three tracks. -
• #1097
Cheers, I got around it by creating a new Route and set it to Direct.

Now another route is giving me this when I try to export it: WTF?
Out of memory.
Cannot export file: C:\Garmin\moo.gpx
There was a problem exporting your file because the file was too large or there was not enough memory. Selecting less data to export may fix this error.
OK
It exports larger routes in the same collection without issue. Memory is not low. THere's something funny with this one Route.

• #1099
Fuck you garmin.
Fucking erase my ride then.
I actually kind of hate it. -
• #1100
Yeah, they do that now and then.
After using basecamp a bit now I want to bury their entire development team in stenchy runny baby shit until they drown in it at which point the entire slab of shitty developers will be snap frozen and fired into the Sun.
^ The device works no problem on my work PC I can send and receive data no problems.
So is it just Safari or Mac? I'll a different browser on my mac when I get home and see how that goes.
