  • if you are playing in a competition and you know the rules enough to play it, you should know the rules enough to ref it

I think youre assuming that all the players had read the rules :)

That definitely wasnt true on Saturday. "Pique, thats a reset". "yeah, whatever. Play on"..

  • Beer hat + Megaphone = whipping fun.

Its worth trying to have teams goal/line ref games. I'm not sure it'll be any more efficient though. Its hard enough getting two teams on court, on time, when they know theyre playing next, without adding a third team to the list for every game.

My plan is to use one of the teams that is on deck to ref. These teams will have already been whipped to "in the hole" on the previous game, so should be around. Also makes scheduling a lot, lot easier.

  • And then theyll complain that the other team had time for a last minute team talk and they didnt. For real. I watched that happen on saturday when someone was reffing.

I think people about to play are in some ways the last ones who should be reffing, because theyre thinking about the game ahead, not the one theyre watching..

I'm not buying that as an excuse for not reffing. This excuse is used by senior teams (Mirek & Marek for example, on Saturday). Sorry, go away & read the rules.

Tough. We need refs, and this is the simplest way to get them.

  • i am pretty sure i am the said 'wanker' who yelled at graeme. however, i was using my outside ref voice, not yelling. i was asking for a goal fix, didn't happen, so i asked again. probably was yelling to be heard, i am sorry, didn't mean to offend you.. at the time i didn't realise you were in the path of a bike and thought you were being lackadaisical. sorry that you felt victimised.

  • outside ref voice - awesome.

  • outside ref voice - awesome.

Her outside ref voice is awesome.

  • So how are those points worked out?

    +1

Is there an explanation written up for how points are allocated anywhere..? I'm not the best at understanding scheduling so it be great to have something written to refer to...

  • You get points based on your position. The number of points is a quasi-arbitrary number decided by the NS (that is, there are precedents for this in other sporting events, and we used them as examples). The idea was to balance a team with one really high/first place result and a few mediocre with a team who was consistent in floating around the podium all season, but maybe never got first. We also wanted to make sure every team who turns up gets points (rather than just the top 12).

  • There will be a NS website up this weekend with all of this information on it. Promise.

  • Top 12 results after tie-break:

    Nice Touch
    Spring Break
    Cosmic
    Hooks
    Cream
    Degeneration
    Netto
    Schmoove
    L'Quiche
    ASBO
    Fenboy3
    Polo Erectus

This only effects NS points if teams drop out (for example, if Hooks don't make it to enough NS tournament, points will be redistributed and teams will move up the points placement list thingy).

  • don't count on that :)

  • It'd be awesome if you guys were able to make it to enough! Just using you as an example ;)

  • we're taking our time but we'll definitely be there for the open. So we'll only need one other tourney to "save" our points right ?

  • yep, but its the the best 4 results that get counted. so if you only do 3 tourneys, then you'll miss out a whole tourney's worth of points...

  • alright thanks, we'll make it to 4 then. I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities

    Promises?

  • There is a website but so far nobody has had time to make it look awesome and put all the information on it.

If anyone is capable of such things and is happy using Wordpress then by all means let me know and you can run riot.

  • Normally I'd be up for helping but at the moment I'm up at 6, home at 8, dinner by 9 and bed at 10

Send me a pm with what kind of stuff is needed done to it, is it just styling or is there php/structure work to be done?

  • I've added a few summer polo events on the Google calendar, mostly for pragmatic reasons. I've marked the NS tourneys as (NS). Hope that's cool.

  • Thanks A, that's really useful

  • is there somewhere i can find this calendar please?
