It's not Tuesday and it's not night time but I did just manage to go out and ride my bike, which was lovely.
I finally made it to Biggin Hill (airport) and found the rather lovely Saltbox Hill. It defeated me on 48 x 19, but only with the final kick. I was quite pleased really. Especially when I searched on here and found Scarlett cursing it back it '09.

It's not that bad, but I didn't know it was there, and I'd just discovered I'd forgotten to attach my undersaddle pack, so was in a foul and vulnerable mood, being tool/tube/leverless.

Yeah, yeah, whatever. X

Are you joining us on Tuesday, Matt?
-
• #2881
Hoping to make it Tues, working in Kettering so dependent on trains etc, will be carrying a dérailleur if thats ok?
-
• #2882
Depending on work I'll be riding out from town. If anyone wants to join me, shout. Won't be the most direct route but it'll get us there...
-
• #2883
Could be up for that, but I won't hoof it or jump any reds in the rush hour. Let me know if that's incompatible.
-
• #2884
I rarely jump reds. It's my old commute so the old habits would take over and the ride would be done with the dull sense of procedure these things entail; no point-proving or risk-taking, just a 'get home from work in one piece' mindset.
A2 -> A20 -> A211 ->A224. Not the most direct way, but I've done it so many times the miles are invisible. -

Would love to andy, as it's my home turf really. Will have to see on the day...

Someone: where do the trains stop on the way, and what is the destination of the trains? Thanks.
-
• #2887
Not a direct answer, but the destination is St Mary Cray, and some trains going there pass through Nunhead and Brockley. I don't know if the targetted trains do though.

(I think they're fast services calling only at Bromley South, arriving at 20:00)

I'm new to the whole TNRC thing and seeing that I've now moved out of London it puts me at rather a disadvantage if wishing to participate in all of the routes. So rather than travel out to lands far away I'd love to ride the routes near to me.
I'm living in Potters Bar, so there are quite a few routes around my way, but I'm not sure when they're likely to happen. How do you decide which routes you are going to do and when? Also, is there a ride every week or has it become a little more spread out over the months/years?

Sorry to be ignoring the above but I'm just checking in quickly. I'm in for Kent.
Ps Jen: Lemme know if you're southing it tomorrow else i'll bring the Gmin tues. B

^^it's always been fortnightly (though the de luxe editions (overnighters) happen on the off weeks, as do the occasional reccies or whatever).
There's no real rhyme or reason behind route choices. Things just crop up :/

Even got MrsFix out on a TNRC route today. It was great. Fields of wheat and poppies stretching for miles. She wore her fancy HR monitor (she's been on the myfitnesspal calorie-counting weight loss thingy) and was chuffed to discover she'd burnt approx 2000 calories on the ride :)

There's a lovely Potters Bar route we do and we haven't done it for a bit so it may pop up soon. There tends to be a hilly/flat north/south balancing act performed and we've got a southern hilly route on next.
This is all observation, I'm not part of the decision making process, none of us are, "they" decide and whatever "they" decide we do, happily, because "they" know what's best for us and "they" look after us.

I was just thinking about Potters Bar today as it goes (went through it on the train).
If that's a request, and Tim's not got his new-fangled campfire ride whittled to smooth perfection by then, maybe we could do it on the 19th. Been a while since we've hit the E4 Ecstasy en masse too…

Sounds good. I'll keep checking back and see what I can make. I like the look of the potters bar route as It's an extended version of a route that I mapped out to get off main roads and enjoy the countryside more. Little did I know that the elevation could rise/fall by something in the region of 1245ft over 21miles!
