Mine now says "LFGSS Category: Neg repped"
I don't even know why!?
-
• #168
could you put the LFGSS Category: Banned for banned people?
for example our old friend johnny's status is LFGSS Category: Uncategorised and people are still asking him for stuff. It would help to know that he is no longer with us...
... or is he? -

I imagine it's because a lot of people neg-repped you when you first joined. Check it in your UserCP.

I'm sure it has a lot to do with all those Orbit sale threads.

Does seem a bit bullshit to be honest - Not sure that the reputation system as it is will actually relate to how honest someone is whilst trading. I'm sure theres quite a few people who have had good service from me, but I'm not gonna beg them for 'rep' like some e-bay feedback needing whore
-
• #173
You shouldn't have to beg for rep. Once the idea becomes well known people will start to give out rep for good service.
I said it earlier but as it's a long thread I'll say it again for your benefit. Rep in general will be a good way to see whether or not someone is likely to be trustworthy. The ideal person you want to do business with on here is someone who has investment and attachment to the community. That type of person is more likely to have decent rep.

I think you have put your finger on the problem there though. If someone has a lot of rep it is, true, a reliable indicator that they will be trustworthy. But, if they don't have much rep it isn't a reliable indicator of anything much. Not when it comes to buying and selling anyway.
It'll take a long time before giving rep is ever a regular part of a transaction. If it ever does.
So at the moment I think all we can do is say; lots of rep means you can trust them. Lack of rep means you should just carry on as would have done before. -

My problem is without a proper ebay type feedback system - where the buyer rates each individual transaction, and there is some way for the seller to respond, it seems like it's open to abuse. As the transactions always occur behind the scenes, PM's etc, there's alot more room for interpretation, especially as classifieds does not have a strict set of rules regarding those transactions. People could start leaving neg rep because they had first 'dibz' but in reality didn't pm you for 3 weeks etc etc.
I don't really see why this is being brought in to be honest, having bought and sold on here and never had a problem. It doesen't seem to make much sense unless it's part of a much broader change to the classified section which would see it more akin to ebay. I love the 'Wild West' element of it, and it's much more fun and simple than selling through other means.
considering most people have no idea how to find it I'm guessing it won't affect your trading as most people won't have a clue what it is.
it'll take a while to bed in and for people to get used to repping after a sale.
