Huummm, just noticed this. Might be up for this, haven't done Cambridge for a while and it was my first longish forum ride. Just have to check a few things first.

eh? surely kingsx is closer to liverpool st than finsbury park?!
anyway trains are ok. the fast ones don't stop at finsbury park (or anywhere).
if you're hanging about, the last fast train is 22.20, the last last train is 23.14

Take kings x train, get off at finsbury. 10min ride from liverpool st.
It's Finsbury Park, not Finsbury. Ironically, there are overground trains running between Finsbury Park and Old St*.
*Old St, which is in the borough(/district) of Finsbury. History: the people of Finsbury, a slum-heavy borough back in the (olden) day, were taken pity upon by the authorities, who granted them their own greenspace a little way away, due to them having none in their own locale.
I live in Finsbury. You live near Finsbury Park. Get off my fucking land.

Ha, no way, I never knew that. You learn summat every day.

The former Finsbury town hall is on Rosebery Avenue, really near Amwell Street and Exmouth Street.. Apart from some road signs, really one of the few remnants of the old borough. Scarlet knows this I'm sure.

Exmouth Market / Scarlett
Fixed.

Thanks, Schixeh.
We still have Finsbury Circus and Finsbury Square, of course, plus Finsbury Library under the Finsbury Estate on St John's St. I feel more like I live in St Lukes (the eastern part of Finsbury), although some might go by the political ward, which is Bunhill. But then again I'm on the border of Bunhill & Clerkenwell, and don't really feel an affinity with either.
Fuck it, I live on the Wenlake. That's as general as I'm going to get.

just started using this site
http://ridewithgps.com/routes/314112
the main deviations are:
- going through London Fields, I guess this may be bad idea with lots of people
- Epping Forest, I don't know the area but the official park map shows that as a secondary road so should be surfaced. Will try and recce it, I love the idea of going through the forest..
- Stanstead Abbots: I just want to cycle down Kitten Lane :) but there may be a blind corner issue at the bottom, anyone know it?
- Hormead to Barkway on the unmarked roads, surfaces look okay from google (current tendency towards smaller roads where poss)
- I've added the DNA path - asphalt surface - and the Coe Fen paths at the end, these are a gravelly surface so might not be suitable
anyway, just messing around with maps. not wishing to tread on anyone's planning toes... going to make some dinner...

I would also suggest the more straight forward route out of town along the A104. It's the Dunwich route and the route we used for the Cambridge College Canter last year so we know it works.
We could put in the High Beach detour (as used by Peter Carter's leaving East London ride), it's nice and there's a tea hut, but the turn off is at the Robin Hood roundabout a bit further up. Beware of following lines on google maps in Epping Forest, they are not all roads, some of them are barely paths.
The DNA path at the end looks like an excellent alternative to the crappy route in using the A10 to cross the M11.

I have a friend who works in the Finsbury Health Centre which is tucked away behind Farringdon Road near the Roseberry Av crossing. The building is a "modernist masterpiece" designed by Lubetkin (of the London Zoo Penguin Pool fame). As well as the building itself being architecturally significant the Health Centre is also viewed as a model for public health care provision which became very influential when the NHS was later set up. How much longer it will operate as a health centre is uncertain. As a grade 1 listed building the necessary renovations are difficult to finance under current NHS financing strategies.
