TfL considering modifying cycle lane on Blackfriars Bridge

• @missmouse: not saying no follow-up (this was the second protest after all - first flashride ~200-300 was in May) but we didn't want to do an immediate repeat as likely smaller numbers, so would look like interest was sagging, media interest would certainly wane. That's why we just wanted to focus on the one ride on Friday. We won't shy away from another, bigger protest - perhaps also drawing attention to the grief they're giving you over London Bridge, before the 2012 campaign launch, if needed. But right now we await TfL's next move - expecting some news this week...

• We delayed start (and halted a couple of times) to fit the TV news schedules. With the amount of congestion we'd caused there was no way we could do another lap and get to CM for 7pm. In hindsight link with CM should have been much better thought through - although, again, we did not want to split numbers.

• @RowHan we had ~200-300 people on first flashride (morning rush hour in May). Caused no traffic problems whatsoever. Need the sort of numbers we had last Fri to really hold up traffic.

• Did anything happen this morning then??

THIS!
Get your arses down there on 12 Oct people!

• Great!

• In't diary.

• Shit. It's my leaving do for WfW that eve, 6.30 in Clapham, so don;t think there's any way I can make the protest this time. Will be there in spirit though!

• 200 people signed up on the first day to say they're joining LCC's Blackfriars protest on Wednesday 12 October! Have you?

• Can't I'm afraid, will be in the state annoyingly enough.

• Signed up when I got the friday email just there now.

• Blackfriars flash ride 3: marshals wanted:
We expect a nice turn out for the Blackfirars Flashride 3 on Wed 12 Oct 5:45 for a 6pm start. It would be great if you could help marshal the ride. There will be a marshal briefing on Thu 6 Oct 6pm. It would be helpful if you could make this as well but it is not essential. Please email Gerhard@lcc.org.uk if you are able to help.

• Thank goodness for that. The last one was ruined (IMO) by the fact that no one took charge and therefore we hardly blocked traffic for more than 5 minutes a time. A fully stretched out loop of the bridge both directions is what is required to make it worthwhile i think. If i can commit to the 12th i will drop them a line.

+1 :)

• +1 :)

I've Emailed, only work around the corner so will be keen to help..

:)

• If you can't help with the marshalling, you can help by spreading the word, emailing your mates etc. This needs to be really BIG this time.

If you're scratching your head and wondering what all the fuss is about on Blackfriars Bridge the post what I did today will fill you in on the background:

• What does the marshalling involve ? potentially free thurs

• i went flying through the junction monday morning head down ( coming from victoria street heading down to the embankment )and pedalling hard and i almost went headlong into the new barrier they placed in the middle of the road there
no warning .. luckily no crash

• Yeah the works are a freaking mess and all. Coming home the other Sunday from Embankment, came round the corner to where the little contraflow cycle lane bit is and they'd put an unlit little "Cyclists dismount" sign in the middle of it. Lunatics. Wasn't going fast, so wasn't a problem, but it does make you wonder if they're actually trying to make people f*ck up there...(!)

• They are making the station into a giant battery though, so it's not all bad:

• I saw that article in the Gruan too. Made me laugh that the railway bridge is being lauded as a vision of sustainability, whilst the road bridge is being dragged back to the 1960s.. talk about a game of two halves.

One week to go till the flashride!

• Yup, seven days and counting... hope the weather stays good and a couple of thousand turn out

then Boris might actually wake up

if anyone's interested in marshalling... gerhard@lcc.org.uk is top dawg. Would help if you're free tomorrow (Thurs) early eve for an on-bridge briefing, but there's probably a workaround if you're not
