Indeed. The MTB mech cable run is much neat in comparison.

whats the advantage of the CX groupset over a MTB one?
-
• #3004
Which cx group?

the new SRAM one with the big loop above. 1x11

Oh. It works with 11 speed road leavers but has a roller clutch i imagine. The XX1 derailleur is not compatible with road leavers. There might also be some q-factor / chainline differences with the crank and of course there's the narrow / wide chainring.

If I was going to buy a(nother) Ti cross frame, I'd get Burls to do one to my specification.
I'm thinking along similar lines.
I'd be a 2015 project though.
Having enjoyed my experiance with Triton, I'd like to get them to make me a Ti CX frame. With the same rocker drop-outs as my Fatbike. Post mount disc brakes, but without the worry of threading the mount. Plus I'd like to vary the chainstay length. So I can run it as a copy of my BMC, as a trainer. Then as a big clearance CX for the trails.
It'd definitely be a 1x11 (feck knows, 1x12 by the time I get around to it perhaps).

Wait. Does the 11 Sram MTB stuff not work with road levers?
I had aspirations of running a MTB rear mech. So I can route the cable in the same way as my fatbike.

As I understand it the XX1 rear deraileur will not work with an 11 speed SRAM road shifter. XX1 does not use exact actuation, whilst the 11 speed road stuff does.

Poo.
My rear mech cable goes down the seatstay and right into the mech. Even allowing for the movement of the rocker drop-outs, theres barely a loop.
-
• #3011
Use the 10 speed stuff. That all works together.
-
• #3012
Yeah. Its just a musing at the moment anyway.

Nice. Rode the wife's in a few races this year. Brutal stiff.

Ta . Am very pleased , fresh out of box so not ridden any distance yet . Out in morning . Changed stem and seatpost and saddle this evening to get contact points more like my singlecross . Am hoping to do woodcote cx sportive next sunday , have registered but am still struggling with the legacy of my bone breaking crash last summer and at mo anything over an hour and a half in the saddle is killing my hands and wrists where I broke them .

After thinking pretty hard about going 1x10 a while ago I decided against it.
Couple of reasons; firstly my cross bike has roles outsides of racing, so a wider gear range without big jumps is helpful.
Secondly, being able to drop from the big ring to the granny is much, much easier than trying to jump 4 or 5 gears across a muddy, gummed up cassette. This is particularly handy when approaching a steep hill or a long mud section for example.
Finally, if you're having issues with your rear mech or cassette you've at least got another gear to go to. Today at Welwyn my chain was skipping and jumping around on the lower gears on the cassette (probably due to cable stretch from a new, cheap cable) but I was still able to ride the vast majority of the course by shifting on the front much more than I usually would.

How was Welwyn? I couldn't get there in the end. 85 mile road ride instead.
-
• #3018
It's a good course, bit of everything.

One bike to rule them all? I think this is a pretty unique product.

Another reason for a 130mm spaced pompino please!

Just test rode Pinnacle Arkose Two to try out TRP Hylex.
I must say I am massively unimpressed with Hylex. I dont want to universally judge all road 'direct' hydraulics but they feel maybe 5% more direct than V twin and maybe 10% more direct by properly set up rim brakes.
Judging by this wont hold my hopes high for Hy/Rd either.
2/10 Would not buy

did you try the new shimano?
-
• #3023
Not yet but keen on trying that; I had also ordered in Charge Plug 5 to try the SRAM hydraulics but we all know what happened with that ..

Could be done to poor set-up which I wouldn't be surprise with Evans.

Anyone happen to know the size of allen key required to remove the grub screw from Avid Shorty Ultimate's brake shoes? Seems smaller than anything I own.
Poor design. 2/10 would not bang.
