  • really surprised the giant doesnt have mudguard mounts, thought I could see them on the fork when I checked the pics. Might be a dealbreaker

    all true. but dat orange..

Yeah. Ignoring silly details like spec, clearances, and geometry. I'd have gone a few hundred more for that orange. But £600?

  • ^voice of reason. I guess the sensible thing to do is to test ride them all in january

    Yep through axel

    • what is this and is it good or bad?
  • So even the SLR 2 has a thru - axle? Curious. Lots of conflicting info on this.

It's not really an issue unless you want to use security bolts.

Imho the giant is one of the less suitable for commuting. It's entirely race orientated.

  • Don't you guys race to work no?! :P

  • Heh - my commute is a 2.5 mile jolly down the regents canal at the moment. Love it.

  • Bit wet until winter sets in and it freezes over.

  • Have actually considered buying a canoe and paddling to work. Door to door.

    Nope, bike rafting.

I know a few folk with small kayaks and trailers. That pull the trailer by hand down to the fjord. Put a trailer lock on it, and piss off for a padel. If you had a trailer at home, and at work. You'd be sorted.

  • Also. One of them is a keen sleeveless. The core strength this guy has from kayaking is pretty impressive. I reckon you could whip his tri bars out from under him, and he could hold a flat back tuck unsupported.

What are we talking about again?

  • The tyres make the biggest difference, would advised you to either fit 25 or 28mm tyres on it to get the feel of the bike on the road.

Interesting, I've stuck with the 35mm semi-knobbys my caadx came with and whilst I quite enjoy the roll-over-anything aspect, they do look pretty heavy...

  • Howard, get a paddle board, it'll do wonders for your core strength.

I always found riding my crosser with skinny road tyres on it a curiously joyless experience. Stick to the semi knobbys.

  • Hm might stick my road wheels on it and see what happens. 10spd cassette and 9spd chain will be fine around the block right?

  • Err don't think a 9 speed chain will work on a 10 speed block. Outer plates too thick.

  • I always found riding my crosser with skinny road tyres on it a curiously joyless experience. Stick to the semi knobbys.

Interesting, mine feel stable and predictable with 28 on road, but off road with 38 semi knobbies it felt fast and nimble.

  • mine is on the way and should be here tomorrow.
but i ordered it with other components and it was built by the guys at the store, so i don't expect those failures like you had.

  • There is a Charge Freezer Ti frame going for a bargain prize on Triton. Urge to buy it on credit is very great. Must resist.

  • Such titanium, much light, so shine. Wow.

What are peoples thoughts on the Rose Pro DX Cross-2000?

  • I think it's between the BMC GF02 105 Disc 2014 http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bmc/granfondo-gf02-105-disc-2014-road-bike-ec053877#features

What are peoples opinions given spec and price? Bike will mainly be used for commuting. The bmc looks awesome but not sure it's worth another 600 quid

I got this years BMC GF02 Disc and as a 'do everything' bike & it pretty much ticks all the boxes.

I'd say it's more of a road disc bike than a true CX though, and it looks like the 2014 spec is leaning this way too as they've replaced the Mavic Crossrides with new Shimano WH-RX05 wheels.

I run mine on 28c Durano's nearly all of the time, but swapped them recently for 33c Cyclocross tyres in order to do a race. It was only my first one but I had an issue with toe overlap. Not sure if this is common or more to do with the smaller frame size (51cm).

  • ^thanks, I do really like the look of the bmc even though it is expensive. Does it have rack and mudguard mounts? a lot of conflicting reports about this on the web.

Frustratingly Evans are the only UK supplier and wont have stock until Jan 14. Are there any other differences between the 2013 and 2014 models that you have noticed?

Yep it has mounts for everything you need.

& from comparing specs, it looks like they traded the Easton stem/handlebars for their own BMC branded models, and the wheels have been changed from Mavic Crossrides to Shimano's, which might be considered a downgrade especially when the've bumped up the rrp by another £100

  • Whether Genesis did exactly the opposite.

  • hmm thats good news about the mounts, not too bothered about the bars and stem. Are the wheels a downgrade? thats disappointing
