  • Just adjusted the front derailleur as the cable seemed a bit slack and not exactly aligned. Seems a bit better and will hopefully not have to reach so far to upshift now.

  • Not a great deal better in real terms. You still have to push the left lever a long way to shift and it's got an awful agricultural action. 105's it is then.

  • As I said earlier, I swapped to a Force front mech and it's much much better- the other thing to bear in mind is that any front mech dealing with a 16T difference is at the limit of what it can cope with, so (for example) the 10T shift between 36 to 46 is going to be much easier for the mech to deliver.

  • I've bee riding aound on a Genesis Day One now for about a year, bought it off eBay for £300. It's single speed so not very suitable for cross racing but geared low enough to make it purposeful for everyday CX duties.

I have to say it's one of the best bikes I've ever owned. It's so versatile.

I think you are on the wrong forum, I'll get your coat >>>>>>

  • I don't think that it's the limit of teeth that are the problem with the effort, it's the physical properties of moving the parallelogram.
I've seen an Ultegra 6700 front mech for £19.99 in a sale, Dammit, even less than a 105, so I may get that first.

You bastard. If it's a yellow 56cm then it should have been mine.

  • What are people thinking of the Charge Filter Hi? Comes in at a grand. Would be getting it on ride2work. Unfortunately my work signed up for Evans ride2work and therefore my selection is fairly limited.

Not sure I like it aesthetically.

This is also an option but the Charge has Tiagra and the Genesis, Sora.

Or if anyone can enlighten me on whether you can add your own money onto Evans £1000 voucher then I think I'd probably go forthis.

  • That's the Genesis Ed's got isn't it? Or at least used to have, before he replaced everything on it.

  • Ha, yes it is. I'm under the impression that all he has left is the frame and possibly wheels?

I did see that, and would totally get one of those if there was a 54cm one available.

  • I think Ed's main problem was with the old style Sora STI units. They've changed for 2013 though & they may have been improved.

Not familiar with the brakes or hubs on the Charge. The CDF is definitely the better looking of the two.

  • I'll have to research in that case. May be a more sensible option! Always been partial to the CdFs anyway.

The main problem is the old style Sora levers that have appalling performance, even with problem solver travel agent.

The new Sora is a noticeable improved being identical to Tiagra in term of shape and also come with an aadjustable pull ratios.

Test ride them both first before deciding, the CdF is a very relaxed stable bike to ride, you might not like it at first due to how your current bike ride, I got used to it as it's lovely to relaxed on.

  • After a week of riding on discs, I can offer some comparisons. OK, so they are only BB5, but the initial feel was WOW! Stopped on a sizpence. Now they don't seem any different to the Ultegra calipers and the very well set up TRP EuroX's I had on the CX9. Still seems to be a lag and then they work well.
As it hasn't rained hard, I can't say much, but damp weather there appears to be better braking.

Almost sorted, by the look of things. Can't wait to see what the price is.

  • Those hoods look big. Unavoidable with the reservoir I suppose.

The callipers look like neat little items though.

  • I like the big hoods.

  • I like the big hoods.

I knew I'd seen you somewhere before ;-)

  • I also like the big hoods.

Wonder what these will cost when finally released?

  • Don't really care what it looks like - just wish SRAM would get on with it, really.

I'd imagine the price would be wallet-terrifying given how much a pair of SRAM Red cable shifters will set you back.

    Right size, wrong colour eyes.

Alot. But then the niche market brake only levers, I'm hoping for will probably cost more.

But it would be worth it, to put compact road bars on the 29er, with my Hope mini pros. Probably could'nt call it a SSCX with 2.5" tyres though.
