  • SRAM will do this in 2013

  • SRAM/Avid are working on hydraulic road discs, expected release is next summer.

Essentially, what Dov said. They'll be announced at the autumn shows next year, with availability in early 2013.

  • The UCI have also been rumbling on about allowing road bikes to have a disc in 2014. That will drive down weights and prices of road disc systems.

One of the biggest steps towards that point was this fork from 3T which will be all over the Pro CX scene this winter.

  • What other CX bikes have made the shift to disc this year apart from the Boardman?

The Cotic has them, I guess you could count the Pompetamine?

  • Stevens top model has

  • PRO issue only. Will prolly be an option for 2012.

I would suspect Canondale and Giant to follow suit at this years Eurobike.

  • It looks like Cannondale won't succeed in getting their 2011 CAADX bikes into the shops before the other brands get their 2012 bikes in.

If you have the "year old" 'Dale sitting next to a "brand new" bike, the canti vs. disc thing is going to make the choice even more stark.

  • Cannondale don't give a monkeys, their market is the U.S.

It will only be on the Super X anyway.

  • There was a time you had to ride a Cannodale to get them to fail.

Now Cannondales manage to fail at even hitting the showrooms.

    Progress, init.

  • Fair enough, Cannondales market is the US, but I'd have spent a grand on one three months ago if the damn bike had been in the country.

Now I think I'm going to buy the Boardman, so that's a (vanishingly small in overall terms) amount of cash that Cannondale have lost.

Now if I was the only person in England to act like this- no problem for Cannondale, but I suspect that I might not be alone in getting fed up waiting.

    I'm ignoring SF.

Even right now we have some difficulties trying to order some new Cannondale, we do have those in stock, but a limited number though.

let put it this way, while other brand have an average number of 40 in their warehouse, the cannondale have only 5.

  • Evans have the £1,399 Sram Rival CAADX, not the £999 Shimano 105 that I would have bought- unless you've got some in your shop Ed?

  • Looked at the boardman. All I can say is, if you took off the (lacquered over) boardman decals... this would be porn. I've got it in a large, reckon the size is perfect, bars may be little high for some but there's plenty of spacers. Higher bars suit ne fine for now.

Worst part was dealing with halfords... they really are mickey mouse. Wouldn't build up the large for me to look at, wouldst let me ride the medium apart from inside the shop!!!!

The stark contrast between them and real bike shops was evident when we headed to leisure lakes after to try out a new bike for my mum. Got there, bike built ready as requested, quick fit, a brief ride round carpark was all it needed....

Anyway, the brakes really swung it for me, for its intended use they are a massive advantage. Now I just need to get them set up right.... anyone got experience with this?

  • Argghhh!! The bikebox was dented on the corner... just spun the rear wheel for the first time and it's out of true. about 4mm... FFS! I got a picture of the box while still in the shop, luckily. What's score now do you reckon? request a new wheel? don't think it's fair to start off with a wheel that has been buckled. Think the disc might be bent as well (when I opened the box the seat post was resting on it, having been knocked down from the corner.) which explains the difficiulty I've been having getting it set up...

    why can't life be simple?

Nope, didn't realise that there's a SRAM version of the CAADX, normally what you see in the website is what you get.

Will check stock levels when I pop round to work tomorrow, but AFAIK (prior on 11/04/11), we definitely don't have it in the country at the moment.

  • Halford are shite when it come to bicycles, they may have the bicycles you want, but the mechanic are out of this world.

almost a decades ago, I brought a bicycle from a reputable chain shop, it's a Kona Smoke that was my first hybrid (well, it's more of a rigid MTB with slick tyres), it was perfectly reliable with no problem whatsoever, until it got stolen.
Insurance company being diffcuilt to work with, they finally send me a vouncher for Halfords, no problem really, ordered the exact same bicycle (abet newer with better component), but the bicycles was pretty appauling to ride, wheel's not true, brakes is spongy, the derailleur hasn't been indexed properly, and a pretty scary moment in Fulham where my handlebar rotated on the stem clamp resulting me almost hitting a bus.

It's then I realise it's not because the bicycle was a decent brand, it's because the mechanic actually put it together properly.

Sound like the box has been damaged during transit, Halfords should take it back as it's their own fault for the carelessness of handling the boxes and replace the damaged bicycle.

  • They wont though.

If the wheel needs truing I'd just go ahead and get it done, 4mm is not a lot. If the disc rotor is bent then take it back and demand a replacement as these never go back to straight again.

  • Fair play to the bloke at halfords, just spoke to them and he said he'd swap the rear wheel out off the display bike, without me even suggesting it.

Still a ball ache as this halfords is 20 odd miles away and I'll have to strap the wheel to the back of the motorbike... but the best result I could've hoped for.
