Friend has had an issue with his brand-new Boardman CX Team. The front BB5 brake disc has rubbed against the inside of the fork under normal use, and is set up fag-paper close to the fork blade. Halfords, true to form, have 'fixed' it by bodging a washer on the axle to space the fork blade away from the disc.
Needless to say, he's going to tell them where they can stick it, and demand a refund, but is this a known issue / design flaw, or have Halfords messed up the build?

Unless they've installed a ovgerly large disc. It sounds like the fork is inherently flawed.
Happens if you have awsome power legs, a slack QR, and an over spec rear disc. Never hear of it happening on the front.

I've just bought one of these, and I've noticed that it's close (1cm away). Surely it's just been mounted wonky - I'll have a look at mine tonight.

Yeah, it's a really odd fault.
Any recommendations for another CX bike around the same price point, with SRAM & discs?

Inverse shim at the disc mount.
Sorted.
I cant believe the Halfords mechs didnt think of it.

Mine never rubbed.

Not that I've ridden one, but the Charge Filter Apex might be worth a punt. Saw one in the flesh last week - quite a pretty bike. Wiggle are doing small and medium sizes for £699 which strikes me as a very fair price. You've then got change from £1000 for a Wound-up CF fork :)

Good price that - thanks. Unfortunately he's well over 6 foot...

However my girlfriend is 5'5", and I'm very seriously considering buying her one.

Do it.
Apparently if you buy a Pizza express pizza with some kind of 'claim your summer' offer you can get another 10% off. That's a hell of a lot of bike for £600ish.

Small.
(I seem to remember you saying shes around my height)
On-one keep having awesome offers on the wippet for around 999, if you decide to go done the XC hardtail route instead.

Looks like my pal might be going for this to replace the Boardman:

The video is well worth a watch.

I looked at those, pricey compared to the Boardman I thought.
My front disc has never hit the fork, it's close to it for sure, but there is sufficient clearance, both with the original (Formula?) hubs and the Hope Pro II Evo that I am using now.
That's with the initial BB5, then a BB7, and finally a Hope Hydraulic caliper.

When I see things like this I wonder why I'm bothering with trying to build mine. On spec and weighed up against all the BS this would have been a much better prospect.

Pulled the trigger on that Charge for commuter duties.
Bye bye Bob!

Also bought! There will be a "54cm" i.e. 55.5cm square Klein up for sale soon unless the man who I've seen on an identical Klein happens to have the "52cm" and actually finds it too small and wants to swap. In which case, there'll be a 53cm Reynolds 753 Graham Weigh up for sale.

The Old Kent Road is more akin to a mud track than a velodrome, after all.

They're just socially acceptable hybrids aren't they really.
I saw someone in hi-viz Defeet armwarmers yesterday and felt a pang of desire. And I looked at a rack today.
^ I agree that the chainring is the most important part of a single ring setup.
I ran a single blackspire downhill ring with a lightweight bash guard & a cheapo dog fang for over a year with no derailments. This was on a rigid mtb off road. I don't think the bash guard was needed, I just like the clean look of them.
^ Dog fang, for those not familiar.
