Lets have an alternative denim ride in london
Double denim or nothing.
Anyway, I've been saying for ages we should have the weed run.
Nothing much. Just Victoria Park up and down all afternoon. -

How do I register for this ride? It says its full.
Balki i think it's just marshals that have to register. if you just want to ride, turn up at the start.
Lol. Balki recognition fail.

The double demin ride is an amazing idea. I've got somewhere to stay within a short train ride of Brum so I'm going to try and make it.

I saw NOTHING in what was written that suggested she was 'pissed off' at all. everyone who missed out was disappointed. Instead of bitching, she stood up and said 'Hey, hows about we organise something else? something regular?'
Given the lateness of your response, I suspect you didn't see what she wrote before she edited it. There was none of the positive spin you have suggested.

I can only go off what I saw evolving on Facebook - if posts here have been edited I have no way of seeing them. What I can see is that members here (including from Tweed Run LLP) are still sitting by while her name is published with the obvious desire for people to 'press the point further'. At least one person saw this for the bare minimum of what it is: "creepy".
I have the records of postings to the now-defunct Alt FB group. There was nothing negative there at all.
I ask this of you all: Tweed Run LLP borrows hook, line and sinker from the Edwardian ethos of genteel, polite behaviour (Maybe that's included in their copyrighting of riding a bike in old clothes).
Is what is evidenced here toward a woman a shining example thereof?
I'd love to hear from a Tweed Run LLP director on this. And whether they agree their social media strategy needs a tweak or two.

I think you're idea of what tweed run is a bit misguided. its run by two people for charity not profit. and they weren't the people arguing on the facebook page i assume.

Laner, I know exactly what it's about, and how it's run. Mind you, not many charity organisations would go to the extent of copyrighting a bike ride in old clothes.
No, Tweed Run LLP weren't arguing on FB. I commend them for their engagement to calm people down after the early opening and near-instant over-subscription caused disappointment.
The issue here is social media heavying with no engagement and targeting a woman from the anonymity of an internet forum. Or standing by while that is done.
I guess if people hereabouts don't see anything wrong with this course of action I'm not here to try to change your minds. It's just not what I'd call polite, gentlemanly or representative of what I like to call the cycling ethos.

Mikey boy, just let it go, you're not an American lawyer fighting a huge case.
You're most especially not Erin Brockovich.

The person who originally posted my name very kindly edited it out of his post yesterday and I have no hard feelings. Can we please bury the hatchet now, as there are obviously a lot of people who care about this event on this forum and I don't want to be the cause of inter-cyclist fighting, or the source of negative feelings.
On a more positive note - there's a great new post on TTR blog about Annie Londonderry. Fascinating stuff, obviously written by someone who knows and cares a great deal about the legacy of female cyclists.

shenanigans, why did you call the tweed run sexists?
-
• #339
Ignorance I guess, I have been asking myself that same question!

If you can't register, why not take part by volunteering?
-
• #341
I do have a bit of a temper sometimes though and sometimes say things I'm not proud of later on. Which is why I don't think there's any record left of me saying that (edited or deleted out), and I can't remember where/how it was worded.

I think my name has already been clearly put forward as a rabble rouser, and also I don't want to come across as apologizing to grovel for a volunteering place, rather than for just trying to make amends.

KiwiMike, when you get out of the nursery (3 or more posts and being on the forum for 24hrs) pm Teddy or Jacqui on here, to discuss your thoughts/feelings/issues about the Tweed Run, as they are the organisers, navigators of the Tweed Run.
I was going to spend a bit of time defending the forum and how people on here defend their own, but if you stay here for any length of time past this situation you'll see that for yourself.
Personally having seen some of the comments and insinuation, that occurred across facebook and this forum it should just be noted that just because you are pissed at a situation doesn't mean you have the right to make out the organisers are idiots/sexist/incompetent in how they are planning an event which is getting more and more oversubscribed every year.
It went from being closed in 45mins to closed in under 7mins from last year to this.Shenanigans has every right to organise a ride in whichever fabric she so chooses, but to make out that anyone can organise an event/ride like the tweed run on a regular basis and have it run as smoothly as it does is a nonsense.
I'm sure Jacqui and Teddy are working on all sorts of ways to make sure that future Tweed Runs are just as good if not better than previous ones and also on ways to make sure more people can attend/participate, but with the numbers on the ride capped there will always be those who will be disappointed. And there is nothing that anyone can do about that.

I doubt that you'd come across as apologising to grovel for a volunteering place if you like to be involved.
the forum itself can be harsh, but they don't keep a grudge.

I am in a high state of excitment and am growing a tash specially for the run. Heartfelt commiserations to the people who didn't get in and a BIG thank you to the organisers for all their hard work. They have created a wildly popular event. A killer combination of memes and perfect timing too.... master situationists at work, me thinks. Chapeau!

+1 and i think anyone who can't accept an apology is ungracious/immature

Hi Cornelius,
"Shenanigans has every right to organise a ride in whichever fabric she so chooses"
I agree 100%. However it doesn't look like it gets much credence given the reaction here to the suggestion and the actions taken on FB. Quite the opposite in fact. And at a time when we need more rides, not less. Jeremy Clarkson must be loving this.
"to make out that anyone can organise an event/ride like the tweed run on a regular basis and have it run as smoothly as it does is a nonsense"
Who said this? No-one to my knowledge, anywhere. Any yes, I do know exactly how much work will be going into organising the Tweed Run. I used to run national series 2-day XC and DH MTB events, involving hundreds of volunteers.
All I recall reading was the suggestion that people get together on a semi-regular basis to ride bikes. And subsequently got slammed for it. That's all.
Cheers
Mike

cardigan, sorry was going to introduce myself yesterday but never got round to it. Seen you at souths previously and was remiss in not rectifying identification and introductions.
good to meet you.. -

KiwiMike, as posted previously best you speak to Jacqui and Teddy about this situation. I posted up my position both here and on facebook, Shenanigans can organise a ride whenever and wherever in whichever fabric she chooses, but "the alternative tweed ride" would have been a bit cheeky/disrespectful.
Like I said the forum exists in its own little bubble most of the time, and if you stay here long enough, you'll see that for yourself. I'm kind of past defending it at this point. Either its for you and you stay, or its not and you don't.
Look forward to seeing you at the tweed run, or any other forum ride you decidde to step out on, I'd suggest the bridges ride end of march, usually a good 'un.

Mike, you appeared to have missed this so I've taken the liberty of posting it again.
Given the lateness of your response, I suspect you didn't see what she wrote before she edited it. There was none of the positive spin you have suggested.
The point is, you don't have all the information, so your comments are only based on part of the scenario, which renders them counterproductive.
For someone who said he didn't want to start a flame war, you're not doing a very good job.
Can we let it lie?
Or mulberry- or whatever it's called!
