Yeah took a look at the Denim Doc, shame he's not in London.
I was thinking there may be a tailor who can offer something similar, seeing as people like Albam get their alterations done off site...

Just take them to son of a stag. That is good value for a proper job.

There are exactly 2 chainstitch machines in the UK. DD and SoaS. That's it.
-
• #905
There used to be a guy 'round the back of Shorts Gardens with one, he's not around anymore unfortunately...
I've heard great things about Dr Denim from mates who've used him, if I ever start wearing blue jeans again I've got a shedload of work for him... -

20 bob for something done properly isn't bad

Three.
Hasn't Giles at Ironheart got one of these machines?

Thanks for all the tips, I had no idea where and how much this kind of service costs. Looks like Son of Stag may be the best option.

Ha, I'm sat here in a pair of Ironhearts and had no idea they had a Union now.
I'd also had some repairs and alterations done by Denim Doctor a few years ago and he didn't have a chainstitcher back then either.

Hehehe... I found a pair of 36" in the Brixton store, took 'em home and they were fucking massive on me... Cunt... :P
money saved = trip to tailor IF you really like them.

Pay peanuts, get monkeys.
£20 a pair is fair if you want it done properly. -
• #912
I've never understood that saying. Surely you get elephants with peanuts and monkeys with bananas?
-
• #913
Mice with cheese etc
-
• #914
Yes, Giles has one but I'm not 100% sure he offers it as a general (ie. non IH jeans) service.
-
• #915
Also, which Ironhearts do you have, doubletap?
-
• #916
Non selvage 634 with the pre-Levi's legal action arctuate and red tab so from 2005-2006 I think.

Ah cool. A pair of those came up in the classifieds in my size. Kinda regret not grabbing them.
-
• #918
Just get some Copydex on 'em and fold the hems under.

Im in need of a new pair of "smart" jeans, ie something I can wear with brogues and a shirt for interviews and the like. Anyone got any recommendations or should I just go with some tried and tested APCs in black?
-
• #921
smart ≠ blue?
-
• #922
Theres nothing wrong with blue per se, but the indigo has a nasty habit of rubbing off on my tan brogues (and is a right pain to get out again) and black is just that little bit smarter I reckon.

Fair enough. Not proper denim, but I like Acne's Max Cash
http://shop.acnestudios.com/shop/men/jeans-1/max-cash-18.html
Looks wank on their site, but they fit well if you're tall and lanky and want slim jeans
-
• #924
^I love the fit of Acne's as I am indeed tall and lanky but I really dont find the quality up to the price. Had a pair of those exact ones but the colour just leaks out of them like nobodies business when you wash em. Maybe I just had a duff pair or something since everyone else raves about em.

Nah I agree, esp uk prices. If you get them in Sweden they're usually 1000 sek, ie £90ish.
....so an extra £10+ postage and a 3 week wait
