  • I should have looked these up. When dungarees were mentioned, I thought you meant what are know as overalls in Canada. Still these look nice. You're right though, its hard to tell the colour, even on Outlier's site. They look a lot closer to black in this picture.

  • Yeah, think chocolate brown mixed with deep purple, kind of like the colour of our bedroom ceiling, called "Black Bean Soup" by Benjamin Moore.

  • Just got my first pair of proper nice jeans, Edwin ED-55. Probably not up to forum standards but a world away from what I'm used to. Wish I'd got them slightly smaller though as they've already loosened off more than I thought they would.

  • Suggestions for decentish jeans to try
    Budget around £100
    Regular tapered fit
I currently own Edwin keen to try some others
    Ta

  • Low temp, high spin wash may do a bit to shrink them down

I had similar with my first iron heart jeans, fitted perfectly but over time the waist eased considerably. I recently put them on for a wash inside out and gave them a high speed spin, now they fit beautifully.

  • ED-55s are sanforized so won't shrink when washed either, unfortunately.

  • Sigh. Never mind, they're still super comfy, just have to make sure I've got a belt. Hopefully will wear some patina into them soon enough.

  • I'll give it a go once they need it

  • I checked with Edwin a couple of years back and they said the Ed 55 wasn’t sanforized so they would shrink a bit (they did but mostly in the length).

  • Interesting. There are quite a few varieties now (38 listed on son of a stag). When I had mine back in 2012 or so, they were sanforized. Perhaps it depends on which pair you buy.

  • Interesting. They've really loosened off now so might have to put them through a wash sooner than first thought.

  • Anyone here tried the Naked & Famous Elephant 8 Supima Soft 21oz denim? I was in a store yesterday looking for jeans for my wife and saw them. Compared to a pair of Iron Heart 21oz they didn't feel as weighty nor as stiff and the denim was quite soft which is how they advertised it. Just wondered how they wore?!

  • Uncomfortable denim>>>>>>> :-)

  • Sorry. Totally unhelpful.

  • Just buy a pair of denim shorts and wear a padded liner if needs be.

  • Was that in relation to both jeans or non of the above?

  • @jb isn’t a great fan of IH jeans

Though ymmv. My 21 oz pronto jeans went soft after a couple of wears and are supple and comfy. 25oz were like wearing cardboard for the first 5 or 6 wears - actually digging in at the waist and knees but again now feel like old friends.

  • Nothing against Iron Heart, just don’t personally see the appeal of 21oz denim.

  • Which is pretty much their signature - heavy denim

  • Yeah, fair. Their 14oz look decent. They’re just a bit motorbike-y for me as a brand I reckon.

  • But that would remove all the fun of wearing someone else's well-seasoned faux-denim lycra

  • Had no comfort issues at all with a 21oz pair of 555’s. Have got an IH 21oz type 3 and would probably go lighter weight on a jacket were I to buy again as it’s going to take forever to break in.

Cut is usually more of an issue for me than denim weight, had a pair of APC Petit New Standards years ago that were a real pain to walk up stairs in for a good while
