  • Don't get them taken up before a wash or soak! That is asking for trouble. Then go to SOAS.

Not sure RAH if you didn't buy there. If you'd bought from either shop it would have been included, I think.

  • I'm a 32 in Albam so can try them on if you want - happy to pick up and post them if you need it

  • Wow, that'd be super kind! Let me take another good look at them and I'll pm.

  • Wonder if the fit will be more this

    than this

  • Or worst case...

  • Hehe. we'll see when @Tenderloin posts the fitting room pics.
Can't you find a place with leg width measurements?
I'm curious too, but beeing skinny af I'll probably fit like the first photo.

  • Wouldn't mind it too much tbh as I'd wear them as my daily out and about trouser. Having kids out in the sticks has divided my wardrobe in two

    • stuff I wear when I don't see clients
    • stuff I wear when I do
  • Yep, another one for SOAS and don't have them taken up before you soak em

  • Thanks all. I need to read up a bit more. Got to admit they (Iron Heart 18oz) were so stiff I could barely get the buttons undone. Having said that once I tried them on 36 didnt seem that long - weird as I'm 28.5" inside leg on a good day. I can imagine they will shrink - obvs a long term project

  • One of my biggest gripe with heavy denim is I wish they'd use zip instead of button fly. It's a bit embarrassing wrestling you jeans at the pub urinals.

  • I find a handily placed chair allows you to sneak up on them and smash them over the head. This then allows you to put your hand to your ear, look around the toilet, climb on a urinal and deliver a flying elbow.

  • I've seen the darning machine at nudie in Soho but they said they only repair own brand jeans.
Does maurice alterations still exist I couldn't find it last time I looked.
Do soas do blowout repairs I thought they only had the union special hemming machines?
Has any one visited the endrime collection of vintage machines? Mohsin has got all the various top machines in working condition in his studio and does open it up on occasions.

  • That's absolute tosh. You can absolutely take up a pair of jeans before soaking them - especially if you're a 28".

The manufacturer/shop should be able to advise you on how much shrinkage there'll be. Every time I've purchased a pair of jeans from SOAS, they have said: 'these jeans will lose an inch and a half (for example) on soaking'. So we measured my desired fold height etc, they then altered them, I took them home and lo and behold, they came up by an inch and a half - resulting in my desired fit.

  • Just been to kojima the home of jean street, it was cool but quite quiet, a few of the shops were closed and disappointingly most stuff I tried on was to small, no more pies. But some nuce people and good to see a pride in a home made product, for the slimmer person some nice things to be had. Any one got any tips for Osaka denim hunting?

  • see if you can make a detour to naoshima on the way. It's more or less round the corner, and definately worth it.

  • we did a long day, went early to naoshima your right its very much worth it, we wanted to go to Teshima art museum but it was shut so did the jeans st instead. On a side note I know naoshima has lots of amazing art but the best thing I saw was a baby raccoon on our walk back to the ferry from Benese House.

  • My massdrop Naked and Famous weird guys just turned up.

13.75oz of goodness. I was worried about the yoke, but they seem to be just fine for me.

    Happy so far.

  • Hmmm. The stitching on the bottom edge of the leather label on my N&F's was not finished properly and is unravelling.

Can't believe I was with @31trum last week who could have sorted this in a trice, I'm sure.

Any other, almost cost free, options? Would I need a special needle?

  • DIY. No special needle if you use the existing holes.

  • Sweet. Thanks.

  • anyone bought anything from Gustins lately? Had a pair years ago that have lasted well, apart from the wait, the import tax and the ridiculous long length they were pretty good. Got some cheap 17oz stuff on there at the moment.

  • Samurai jeans in Osaka :) well good

  • Yes. In the last year I have bought both jeans and non-jeans. Fuck those guys because their quality control is shit. 6 pairs paid for in the last 5 years. 3 pairs arrived and were not even close to the right size despite the labels. 2 of those 3 I returned with no replacement options. Only one pair had an alternate but from a different run. I have pair 6 arriving soon and I fully expect them to fuck it up again whereby they can refund my money and then destroy any record of my custom.

You basically have a 30% chance of getting the semi-custom thing you ordered. Not worth the hassle.

  • Right, cheers!
    Won’t be going back then!

  • Ouch.
I guess I've been lucky, no screw ups in 4 (5?) pairs from Gustin.
Also, they seem to last as well as Epaulet.
And haven't lost buttons like every pair of Epaulets I own.
