I'm pretty new to bikes but is there any advantage of having certain dropout shapes? I always feel like I will die on the road from my wheel falling off if I built a bike with those horizontal track dropouts.

  • Between having your chain, weight and nuts your wheel is likely to ever fall off

good to know I won't ever die that way then!

  • to prevent wheels falling off:

  • I'm absolutely open to be taught otherwise.
It's just that there are quite a lot street hipster kid frames out there which are marketed as track frames, and that's just not ok.
This ^ frame looks exactly like that to me, 2 months old, 3.3kg, tigged, unicrown forks, obscure tubing, full brake bridge, can't see it, but please prove me wrong.

  • totally agree with jetski - if you advertise it as Italian track then you expect to see some lovely lugs and a spot of columbus not a tig welded street bike that was designed PRIMARILY for street use. Nothing wrong with a cheap bike - less poncy, don't have to worry bout it etc. it just aint what it says it is on the tin.

  • And not forget you fixie skidders that want a track frame undrilled for the road very confusing

  • definitely a good point! nonetheless, I guess the cannondale track is a bit of an exception to the rule in many ways.

  • Just to push the knife in a bit further, this lad offered me NOS pista bearings for £25.... hmmm... Ten quid a pop on ebay?

Although, to be fair, it's the folks on here that assume it's going to be some ornate lugged museum piece when "Italian track frame" is mentioned...

  • This thread's pretty embarrassing. Let the fella sell his frame.

  • Anyone who cares about whether this is a "proper" track frame or not is not likely to be buying it, anyone who doesn't is not likely to be racing it on the track. It doesnt matter, its not like its a converted road frame so just let him sell the thing.
For 200 quid it looks pretty decent.
To the op, good luck with the sale
