What an amazing race. Pooley was immense, Armistead an absolute star.
Vos such a phenomenal rider.
Incredible performances all round. -

I've seen suggestions that the OBS have blamed people using Twitter for the lack of time gaps as it was messing up their GPS. Eh? That doesn't stack up for one second.

Wait till you watch a TT without accurate splits :(

Some twits might fall for it.

Why the break wasn't getting splits on the road was a disgrace whilst peloton was.

Wait till you watch a TT without accurate splits :(
There's every chance the TT will have some sweet Swiss timing.

Or what ever trackside is in road racing. -

Excellent race - pleased to see from her interview that Lizzie was genuinely glad with the silver, rather than disappointed to miss out on gold. Great to see familiar roads used in such a way too.

I don't understand why the beeb don't have reporters on the ground for the road races, or encourage twitter feeds from the public about the race.. the commentary wasn't much better today either.. not a patch on eurosport. who ever is responsible for the broadcast knows little if anything about road racing. not hopeful they'll get it sorted for wednesday ITT.

Does not make any sense at all!

^ One could almost say it's hyperbole :)
-
• #963
to be fair to the beeb, the commentary team said something like' it would be a good idea if the camera stayed with the break now' when they entered the last 4 or 5 kms....
...whereupon the camera promptly switched irritatingly back to the bunch for a while
grrr

they seem to be saying they were relying on the mobile phone network to get gps data from the bikes to the broadcasting centre. Can't quite work out if they're saying that was plan A, or their fall-back after their private radio network was overloaded.

Lizzie was brilliant, but rider of the day:
Spartacess.I'm blown away by her strength, ability and aggression, and her selfless sacrifice for the team. She limped home, but her head was held high.
A five foot two giant.

She made the race for me.

Isn't that Jenny J?

Pooley is awesome. She detonates races.

Pooley is my hero, I loved it when she broke into a massive grin after seeing that Lizzie had got the silver on the boards when she finally rolled in.

Im over in Aus so picking up bits and pieces via a dodgy hacked Iplayer, either that or gritting my teeth and watching Channel Nine's coverage which they fit inbetween ad breaks every 5 minutes.
Did anyone see the Olympic roundup on day one? They managed to break new levels of cluelessness during a round table discussion about the Mens Road race. Dame Kelly Holmes, John McEnroe, Michael Johnson discussing cycling. It really was complete and utter Shite.
-
• #971
It was indeed utter arse-gravy.

They were talking more about cricket whilst archery was in progress.. because It's at Lords. FFS

Cricket an Olympic sport?
Since fucking when?
-
• #974
No, just saying the commentary for archery was dire too.

Medieval sports thread>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Boardman using his wristwatch to give us information on the gap between the break and the peloton as he had no reliable timing info was a nice touch- made them look very slick.
