During the Olympics themselves, they will simply close all the roads for most of the day. To do otherwise would be a security nightmare.
really?...

womens road race july 29
men and women TT august 01- paralympics road cycling sometime between sept 05-08

I think it will be a rolling road-block. Just don't expect many cars up box hill for the morning!

i can imagine central london / richmond park/ box hill loop being closed completely for both road races, and hampton court for time trials
but from bushey park - guilford - dorking, i can't see it being necessary i'll ask them on wednesday as i have an interview at the excel centre to be a gamemaker/volunteer for bike events..

Got the time trial route here also

Anyone up for reccying the mens Olympic route on Sunday 15th May with a view to leading/backstopping the ride again about a month later?

Bump. More detail on bikeradar today: http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/details-revealed-of-olympic-road-race-test-event-30990
Access restricted to 3,400 spectators on the best part of Box Hill and limited on the Mall. Loads of road closures (most for over 5 hours? Doesn't sound like rolling.)
I sketched the route out on BRT before saw the like above:

Looks like wristbands will be needed for Box Hill. I might watch from the Seven Stars pub in Ripley instead.

Damn it...I'm at a wedding that day.
The test race on the 14th August should be a good one, especialy with some of the TDF in it... worth going to I recon (and free).

Did this today (well - with the one loop of Box Hill - oh and I started in Teddington but finished near the Mall. But anyway.) It would be fine when the roads are closed and I can see why they wanted to stick to main roads, but it was pretty grim with all the traffic - spent a lot of time dodging pointlessly big 4x4s. Definitely nicer ways to get out to Box Hill.
I take it they are going to relax the obligatory cup of tea and date slice at the top of Box Hill rule on the day - it'll take a long time to get those 9 laps in otherwise ...

Did Box hill laps the other day too (for the Urban Hill Climb..), road up it is quite shite.
And DAMN I'm away for the Surrey Classic. :( -

I'm confused.. Will it be possible to ride it the day before?
-

Road the whole course from hampton court to boxhill in the morning before the test event.
Boxhill is like fortknocks with steel gates around itOfficially they only started closing the roads at 4am
But the olympics will be completely different in terms of shutdownDon't be confused.. forget about riding it

I'll enjoy watching Cav win on reply from home. No more of my £££ are going to the IOC.

reckon it'll be more fun to ride round various points on the course and see the riders that way than standing in an allocated area on box hill.
i'm thinking of watching them cross the thames or richmond park then cycle out to the box hill loop and see them on the decent which i hope we will be able to access for free.

i'll be marshalling somewhere between the mall and upper richmond road.. saturday and sunday (women's road race), does mean i'll not get to see the races proper, #shrugsshoulders, it'll be fun though
6am at the mall.. long day

good luck 'dan sounds like a mission, i reckon putney bridge will be heaving.. best to watch from richmond park outwards if you want to catch the race at more than one spot.. and plan a ride which avoids the course... security on the route will be tight #shoottokill

How long ago did you get your ticket? That sucky website is still showing tickets available, then when I request them, it says 'No'.
Sucks

Unless you're on Alpe d'Huez watching Australia's first yellow jersey winner chew up and spit out Clenbutador, yeah.

About 20 mins. I got to entering the credit card details twice and it threw me out again - took about 40 mins to get through in the end
roll out to a point on the route ftw
Standing on the mall will either be £20 or £40 depending on where you stand and seated is going to cost you £60. and thats just if you want to see the mens race. if you want to see the womens race finish the following day you got to fork out the same again. oh and I imagine they wont let you take your bikes in either.
