• +1 to what @Clockwiseis saying. I've found those plastic handlebar mounts pretty useless, much better of spending a couple quid, literally, on something like this.

  • Elected for a metal handlebar out front mount from eBay for £4 and a pukka GoPro side mount for the motorbike lid for £13 from t'bay also.

Hopefully the memory card will have arrived today.

  • Why are the K-Edge mounts so expensive?

  • Made in the USA with far more precision than is needed to hold a knock off china copy of a gopro.

  • Anyone using a third party GoPro controller app?

Pissed off with Capture always signing me out and requiring internet connection to sign back in.

I just downloaded the only free app I could find - "Action Cam Suite" - but it doesn't seem to work properly with my camera, a Hero 4 Silver.

Would like to hear from someone successfully using an app before I pay for anything.

  • Is it wiser to mount a gopro pointing forwards (bars) or backwards (saddle) if the main purpose is for evidence of traffic incidents when commuting?

  • Depends on how you fall, I guess.

I'd say forward, as it conveys your line of sight, and the other vehicle is likely captured in all but hitting from rear.

  • I'm gradually getting used to mine. All this is true if you recharge every day and format your SD card every day (or every other day). On balance, still a better option for everyday use than the larger camera.

  • Anyone try one of those aliex action cam lights with a gopro mount as a bike light?

Throw looks shit, but looks good for commuting and can mount under Garmin with the fancy dual mount.

  • i have just ordered the fly12 and fly6 - how are you getting on with yours?

  • I think they're great

As just lights, they're both as good as you'll need, even for pitch-black country riding. The Fly12 is ludicrously bright (and has a number of brightness / flash settings), although is quite a narrow beam.

The rear is bright for a rear light too, and has a number of brightness and flash settings.

The camera for both is also good - the footage shows number plates in most conditions.

And they are relatively easy to use - they both connect to PCs / Macs via cables, the Fly12 can also be used over Android, although I only ever plug them in to charge them up. The footage overwrites itself, so you don't need to erase the SD cards, and a 64gb card will last for a good number of hours at full definition.

Battery-wise, they will last a couple of hours, depending on the strength of the beams being used.

  • I love my Fly 6.

I've been holding off on the Fly12 in case they bring out a second gen model soon or I can get it a bit cheaper somewhere

  • £220 from Rutland or £215 from handtec after postage.

  • Great, that's a bit better than the £275 I'd seen elsewhere

  • Yep, it was finding the front one discounted that led me to buying both. I don't see that they will make me safer but may help with the aftermath of any incidents.

  • in case they bring out a second gen model

I think that the big changes were all made in the Fly6, which and a few iterations in its crowd funding stage - these were passed onto the release version of the 6, and the 12, which never had the same protracted prerelease testing.

  • @tw @amey

What mounts are you using for the front light/camera?

The k edge combo mount looks nice but...

  • I use the k-edge combo. Because €£€$€£¥$$

  • If you're after a garmin/gopro mount, the Fouriers HA-GAMPR01 mount has been solid. £20ish from Aliexpress or a few quid more from Mantel et al.

  • Do you know if that can take the edge 1000?

  • Can the graphics be acetoned or are they etched?

  • It says it is on the 'product features' bit of the first link.

  • I seem to remember that there are tales of cameras sometimes interfering with Garmins' reception if they are on the same mount.

  • Yep. My 510 and my GoPro Session are fine.

But... I had a couple of different SJCAM gopro copies and they both emitted enough interference to cause issues with the GPS.

Weirdly, I used to have a Holux GPS unit and that never had issues when used in proximity to those SJCAMs. It appears the SJCAMs and the Garmins could both do with better shielding.
