  • You can indeed.

  • That's handy, I always assumed the mounts were different for either brake

  • you can mount either brake on the frame mounts, but the brake lever is different: the cable pull needed to operate a v-brake is not the same as the one needed to operate a canti

  • Didn't think about that

not sure which to go for really, i used plenty of bikes with V-brakes and i always liked them and got along with them, but never owned a bike with canti's, yet most Pompino owners use them

also thinking about getting a Surly fork instead, just looks a lot nicer

  • V brake + problem solver travel agent = sorted.

  • I just plan on using risers, no problem to solve

  • I use Tektro drop levers for V-brakes. Work lovely :)

  • Cross posted from current projects again.

Another shocker of a picture, but nearly there.

Things to do, play with position and move hoods. Oh and stop the drive side cranks striking the rear stay...

  • Way nice - can I be lazy and ask what forks?

  • Of course.

    Easton ec90x

  • I don't mean to pry but what made you spend so much on the fork when it's quite a cheap frame?

  • Ha. Pry away.

I liked my last pompino and always wanted a carbon fork.

This fork was too cheap to turn down so I bought it. Believe me I wouldn't pay retail on one...

  • I hear you! I can see myself upgrading to a c.£100 crabon fork soon. That's 1p more than my frame cost.

  • cheap frame + expensive fork > expensive frame + cheap fork

  • I have no doubt that you're right but why is that? Is it because the fork is a sort control and contact point for moving parts?

  • It's the most complicated part of the frame, in terms of how it's loaded and how it's response to those loads affects the overall ride and handling.

  • The same can be applied to cheap frame + expensive wheels > expensive frame + cheap wheels.

  • Very interesting insights

  • cheap frame + expensive beer > expensive frame + cheap beer?

  • expensive frame/forks + expensive beer = cheap forks + cheap wheel.

  • I'm just looking at headsets and crown races and facing and headset presses and all that mess.

Do people happen to know if On One face the headtube out of the factory?

  • No, not that I recall. I didn't bother, though I did have the BB shell chased due to some issues with the thread where holes had been drilled through for the chain stays. I buggered the thread on a BB cup (alu cup) before I realised the problem.

  • Thanks for the heads up. I'll check that out.

  • bought one of these frames when they were 10% off can anyone recommend any mini v brakes or are they all about the same?

  • Tektro, the brake specialists
