  • Not just you. I had to cut one a stronglight crankset off a bike due to sripped threads from the self extractor dust caps.

Buy a crankpuller and bin the self extracting caps. You can use an old spoke cut down and bent into a U shape - insert into the holes of the dust cap and twist to remove them..

  • Definitely would have done that as I have a puller but already ruined the threads haha. No biggie I'll just ride it til the bb goes then replace the whole lot. What a shit component. I emailed px about it. Maybe they will replace it.

  • That's what I did. I'm concerned the puller will also just pull out as the threads get destroyed once the inner pin is pressed into the bottom bracket axle.

  • crank pullers engage more threads, so less likelyhood of stripping. the story that stronglight threads strip is ancient though, really bad pr and form of them.

  • set my pomp as a single speed. Is it normal that a can see the fork flexing under heavy braking?

  • Mine keeps getting more dadcore

  • I'm thinking of putting a disc fork on my Pompino. The replacement fork has a rake of 50 mm and axle-to-crown of 400 mm. I think the longer (by 10 mm) axle-to-crown roughly compensates the extra 5 mm of rake.

Would this fork be a bad idea handling wise or geometry?

  • That'll be jolly fine

  • Ta.

  • Any Pomp fans interested in this:

Large frame with a few "modifications". It's had the chainstay bridge cut out (to aid mud clearance) and the eyelets cut off the track ends, so no mudguards/racks. Paint has been touched up with hammerite anti-rust at these points, agricultural but does the trick.

Ritchey WCS fork. Silly light and silly expensive at RRP. Lawyers lips filed down and a few marks but overall in good condition.

    Ritchey WCS headset. Smooth.

Can throw in some cantilever hangers, if they're your brake of choice too.

    £150 fair?

  • If anyone fancies those forks to go on their existing pompino, I have a pair for sale.

  • Is the cat included?

  • if it were a medium i might have bitten your hand off. glws

  • Do they work okay with a track hub?

  • Yep. As far as I can remember, they're rim not disc brake.
Pretty sure I used a pair of fixie wheels when I rode them.

  • Cool, i'd be interested in them for my pomp if you could check that out.

  • Has anyone removed the decals from a raw v4? I've seen a few in photos, but I'm wondering about the process.

  • When you say track hubs what do you mean?
Do you mean will a 100mm front hub fit? This fork will fit a 100mm front hub.
What is your front hub size?

  • It'll be a ball ache I reckon.

  • It's a 100mm hub, one of these

It was more a question of would the dropouts be okay with track nuts. It may be a silly question, I've never looked closely at the dropouts on my bikes to know if the QR ones are different.

  • I used track nuts on it and quick release.
Where are you based? I'm in SE1 and se26 if you want to come and kick the tyres, so to speak.

  • Up in Leicester these days, moved from working in London a while back, so it would be a post job, if you're willing.

    Do you have any photos?

  • I'll get some together.
