  • Width of a given tyre depends on rim width.

  • I've got 35 cyclo x kings on h+son archetype rims, and they work but there isn't much clearance. Not sure how that rim/tyre combination compares with others. As said earlier, my rear wheel has scope to be pulled further back in the dropouts, which would give more clearance.

  • How much clearance are you getting with those mini V's? Have you got a picture? The new V4 looks like an absolute pain to set up cantilevers with so I was going to go with V's.

Also what is the brake lever? It looks different to the normal tektro ones

  • I've got trp brake levers (got them at a good price from Planet X) and the trp 8.something mini vs. Will get a picture in the morning. I don't think the clearance is bad with regards the brakes, it's more the chainstays where it's pretty tight. It's gone off road in the wet and I've not had a problem, but not through thick mud...

  • Ah cool, the levers look great and they seem to be a bit wider than the Tektro ones which I've seen a few comments about being narrow to hold on to

  • Here is the clearance with the mini v and a bad photo of the clearance at the rear stays...

  • And yes, I find the levers to be really comfortable and work well with the mini vs.

  • Cool, thanks for taking the pictures. Looks like there is plenty of room around the tyre before it gets to the v brake. You have to be careful round where I am as there is so much clay soil!

  • Looks like you'd get more clearance if you'd sit the wheel a bit further back in the dropouts (i.e. so the tyre sits where the chainstay indents are). Maybe add a chain link or two and pull it back?

  • Tart question time - What colour anodised bits and handlebar tape to contrast with the Blue Pompino frame?

  • Classic but a bit dull as I have a few bikes with black bar tape and bits, this is my not-serious bike (Because hey, when is a fixed offroad bike serious!?)

  • Yes, I need to have a mess about with it. I think need to get a narrower chain as the current chain keeps catching the inside of the bashguard which is really annoying, so will try pulling it back when I replace the chain. There's definitely scope for more clearance.

  • gold or pink ?

I like the pink tape on my blue V4 :)

  • Is it a V4? Older blue Pomps have red decals, so red tape would look good.

  • I did think Pink might look quite cool. Deda do a luminous one... Do you have any pics? Looking for inspiration!

  • I've got a pomp coated yellow with white, purple and black splash bar tape, an orange ano seatclamp and a tan suede saddle. Class. I might do a home-made sunset sprayjob.

  • 0.5mm Chainring spacers... Cheaper than new chain.

  • It's the V4 so only black decals, otherwise it would have been red anodised bits definitely. I've got a bit of freedom on this one, no green (Obviously) and blue wouldn't look great but I was thinking orange or pink. but open to suggestions

  • but open to suggestions

    grey black pink splash :)

  • Good shout, hadn't thought of that, cheers!

  • That does look pretty cool

  • thanks ! :)

Its some basic cheap Chinese tape, do the job well enough !
Black tape is to serious I think. This bike is for fun, that's why I wanted color and stickers.
