  • Hi all,

    Anybody fitted SKS fenders on a Pompino v4? I have bought some Longboards for mine, but have the following concerns:

    1. The hole in the seat-stay bridge faces down, making it extremely difficult to screw the metal bracket that clips onto the fender into the bridge.

    2. The bracket connecting the front fender to the fork crown is too short. I can't file the hole big enough so that the fender sits low enough to not foul the wire between the v-brake arms (Tektro 926AL Mini-V)

    Anybody had to deal with this before? Any bright ideas? I can take some photos if my words aren't clear!

    1. drill the mudguard, mount directly

    I've got this issue on my pomp, and I've not got off my arse to solve it. I need to fabricate some kind of metal extension, which might involve some filing out, and brazing on of an extension piece.

  • Basically I live with it. The v-brake wire pushes the guard to the left every time I brake. If I brake hard it rubs the tyre.

  • are there any fenders that will fit without modding them?

  • Mudguards. This place sometimes...

    That's up there with "bidon" and "up".

  • Convert it to 1x9 (36 x 11-34), thanks to @Hulsroy for the shifter mount idea !
    Could try a ghetto 10-42 cassette but will ride it for a couple of month before decide.

    I'd go for 11-36 as you'll get a 1-1 ratios with the 36t chainring.

  • 11-36 9sp cassettes are hens teeth it seems

  • Yep, will see. For now gearing is perfect for my use.
    Need to try it loaded with overnight stuff, but should be ok.

  • I thought about your reply, and here's my concern with item 1.

    In order to screw the drilled mudguard on, you need to remove the wheel. However, how do you get the wheel back on after the mudguard has been screwed in? Not possible with fork-ends, right?

    I will take some pics on the weekend and see what I can come up with!

  • Removal of the back wheel is always awkward with track dropouts and mudguards. Hence forward facing Horizontal dropouts on older single speed and three speed bikes.


  • I only need to deflate the tyre to remove the wheel.
    You could also use the front safety mount stuff on the rear to detach the stays or simply unscrew them.

  • Detach the stays at the eyelets.

  • I just sort of pull the wheel off regardless of any complaints from the mudguards - no breakages so far!

  • I have the safety mounts (cheap to get a 2nd sks pair) on front and rear to aid getting the wheels in and out on my pompetamine.
