  • Well, the Alfine chainset (single chainguard) gives a pretty defined 42.7mm CL so I'd base rear hub options around working with that if you plan on using it with the chainguard in place (no idea as to CL with the guard removed and chainring mounted to to outside).

  • If you're intending on running a singlespeed set up, the XT hub, with a fat sprocket and spacers will work fine, make gearing changes relatively straight forward, easily adjustable chainline and not cost the earth.

    As @Dtroll points out, the wheel won't technically be as strong and while there are scenarios where extra strength is desirable, for every day use I haven't found it to make much of a difference either way.

  • Assuming it's essentially the same as a double crank just with a chainring/bashguard the spacing between rings should be 5mm.

  • Just a small thing but some well respected wheel builders use plain guage spokes (e.g. DT Swiss Champion) on the drive side of cassette type rear wheels due to the unequal tension caused by the dishing- maybe have a chat with your wheel builder?

    (Last normal one leaves Vic 6:39, there would be one last chance leaving Deansgate about 11pm but that's subject to Bustitution whist the overnight works are on for electrification)

  • this was at 7am this morning fool.

    My gf didn't want to walk to the station on her own so I got the train with her and rode to work from town.

  • Lol, this morning I had a rather enjoyable ride to Piccadilly on my fatbike, through Clifton Country Park and Drinkwater Park, arriving at Pic about 8:10am. Much grin.

    Tell her to HTFU, she's wasting the opportunities offered by not living within a few miles of central Manchester!

  • I know, I think now that she's walked it once and seen that it's perfectly safe I wont have to escort her again. I've been enjoying the snow commutes.

  • and I'll be taking that route more once I've made some changes to the Pompino, I used to ride that way a lot over summer (joining at Drinkwater Park) but it's just a bit too wet and muddy for my slick tyres and no clearance mudguards at the moment. So you might see me flying past you in the mornings :P

    That is a very practical bike!

  • I've got 35mm Pasela's on there, probably not the best tyre for snow but I'm too poor to buy anything else at the moment.

  • I'm using cx comps deflated to the minimum psi. They're a little slippy but I haven't had an off yet.

  • Spotted this in Brixton yesterday, for a brief second. The colour is great, way better and brighter in real life than the photos.

  • Wahey! Thanks. Still need to fettle the cockpit area and mudguards.

    On ride one the guard bolts all shook loose (because I'd not tightened them up) and it was a complete disaster.

    Colour is Traffic Yellow in a satin finish, apparently.

  • All pompinos looks better in real life.... Not so photogenic colours but nice in fact. Mine is navy blue. I'll post a picture of the new "light" configuration with 25c tires and rear tubus rack with supernova dyno lights
