  • use bmx hub with 9t driver - ratio is 3. Geometry feels a little like bmx race cruiser - thats what ive tried to build

  • my pompinos for sale, make me an offer.

bought the frame off here, but the guy filed off all the braze ons. great for fixie but i want a pomp for cross now

  • think all city dropout fork next time and see what sizes of tires is possible - makes my way to work to fun

  • Brown and pink. Saucy.
By 'filed off all the braze ons' I'm guessing that includes rear canti studs? Ouch. At least he left the pump nipple...

  • a moment of genius on his part

  • *reminds self need to get mini-v's

  • I thought about splashing out on mini-vs after I first built this - no amount of adjustment seemed to stop the brakes from honking like a motherfucker.
Then the ano started to wear off the TB14s, and all is well.
Old MTB Vs work fine here with Tektro RL520 levers. Not the prettiest, but cheap and effective.

  • I bought some mini-vs for when I revamp mine because I kept setting up the cantis VERY wrong.

  • ^^ geared so i need mini's

^ agreed, I keep doing my cantis up shit, and i dont want the spacer under my stem anymore

  • Had to sell this one on to a friend to fund my polo bike, I get envious that he has it anytime we're out riding together! Cant wait to get a pompetamine

Got this on mine. So racky. Much practical.

^ snap (literally. I got hit by a police car and a piece snapped off.)

Still a good rack though. Get it.

Nice one I'll have a look.

Learn to set cantis up right and they can be just as good as full size vees. It's not that difficult.

    Fork mounted cable hanger ftw.

  • ^ I agree. You can also move the hanger to the fork crown rather than above or part of the headset. It can help judder when braking.

  • For me it's a lack of power. I've had mine set up by myself and my LBS during services and while the front has been OK I've never got anything decent out of the back canti, and that's using a few different brakes and pads.

That's compared to fairly bog-standard calipers that I've set up myself.

  • You can definitely get canti's to work well.

It's just that it's a massive hassle and life's too short to waste time persisting.

  • That's basically my summary. I haven't got the mechanical skill/tools/time to fiddle with them every time I need new pads.

  • I find I can get cantis working well at initial, but the power pisses away as soon as there's any wear on the pads. Mini-Vs seem to do just as good a job with a shitload less hassle

  • When it comes to Canti vs Mini-V vs V, surely the lever type comes into play?
For instance, the MTB Vs are powerful enough on my Pomp with drops, but if I'm honest they were far more powerful when used with the original levers on a flat-bar bike.
Are certain rim brake systems suited more to drop levers (regardless of whether the lever has been re-engineered to correct cable pull, a la RL520s)?

    One more point;
If I ran flat bars on my Pomp, I'd run Magura HS33s. They remain the best rim brake ever.

  • Cane Creek and Tektro both make drop bar levers with the correct cable pull for V-brakes. I think they're called Drop Vs. The two levers two look very similar.

  • Don't the "Cane Creek" ones look more similar to DiaCompe? :-)

  • Couldn't comment I've never seen the DiaCompe ones. I run the Cane Creek road style levers on my cantis and really like them, particularly their Campag style quick release button.

  • I was making a snide comment about Cane Creek not actually manufacturing brakes. In the olden days, they were just rebranded DiaCompe, but as you correctly surmise, they are now rebranded Tektro. Not sure that the textured rubbers make them worth nearly 3 times the price of Tektro RL520s :-)

  • Apart from the lizard logos are they exactly the same?

  • I find it really annoying that Tektro no longer make the R200 so if you want a nice flat transition between your lever and bar, you have to shell out for the stupidly overpriced SCR-5s.
