  • Chain hanger?! I meant the thing here on the inside of the drive-side stay...

  • Yeah, that's a chain hanger, for when you've got the back wheel off...

  • Yeah the current model has that too.

  • Yep, old model has them, think it's intended for the Kaffenback.

  • Better(ish) view here:

  • Ah ok, that makes sense.

  • I've never found it much use TBH. Am I doing it wrong?

  • (the chain hanger, not the pomp)

  • It looks good and all, I like the raw finish. I was hoping for a taller headtube and longer ETT. But from the pics you cant tell if there's any distinctive geometry changes b/c it looks the same except for the seat stays.

  • They are useful when the chain is tensioned, i.e., by a derailleur and the chainring, but are next to useless on a fixed or singlespeed set up.

Cheers. I thought they might be for hanging your chain on when changing a tyre or something. Mine is SS.

I wouldn't call it useless. It can help keep the chain from dragging around when you're fiddling with the back wheel or whatever. Not an essential thing I agree, but not useless.

  • Was also hoping for a longer headtube. Hopefully they've given it better clearance for bigger tyres at least and a bit longer chainstays. The previous model looked a bit like:

Why are they any more use then? I never found them much use on geared bikes. Not useless but no real benefit.

  • You never change a rear tyre before?

  • You never change a rear tyre before?

Yes but I do it, and tube replacements, with the bike upside down and never found the chain hanger of any assistance.

  • Alright Cranky.

  • Looking at the pictures of the new frame on my mobile and I can't work out if it's a new colour or an unpainted frame. Any ideas?

If it's a new colour I like it. Shame mines only ca. 1 year old.

If it's a "raw" frame are they planning on selling it like that? Won't it rust rapidly in the UK?

  • It's raw, but it looks lacquered too. On the photos you can see the brass where the bottle cage mounts and the other lugs have been brazed on.

  • Some Kinesis carbon disc forks ending soon, might be a bargain:

Cool. How durable is lacquer generally compared to paint? I know the paint on these frames is not the best as it is.

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for some nice but not pricey tyres for a bit of trail riding on the pomp? Cross tyres? In the region of £25 per tyre or thereabouts.

  • A pair of Vittoria XG pros for £26 posted? Struggle in real gloopy mud but otherwise a very good all rounder.

  • From this review they appear to be "tube-no-tube".

Do I need a special rim for that? I've only ever used clinchers in my life.

  • That's the TNT tubeless version, which I'm 90% sure these aren't. Besides, you could use tubeless tyres with an inner tube should you so wish.
