  • and is there such a thing as a P2 with both disc and v brake mounts? i had my disc mount welded on, could never find the dual version.

  • you painted them yourself then ?

Frame and fork are powder coated. They've been done a couple of times and rattle canned a few times too in the past.

Bought mine from Evans just over a year ago and cut and filed the canti bosses. Had to polish em right up as I had it clear coated and I didn't want to risk the file marks showing after it was shot blasted.

  • Just ordered my Pomp :-) Will be used as a fixed commuter/run around (as most are!) Muchos excited.

I ordered ones with canti mounts from crc and they turned up with a disc tab too so they're definitely around

  • Back to mudguards...How did most fit the front? Looks like the top mounting is designed to fit at the front of the fork (between fork and caliper brake). Fitted in that position, looks like there'd be no need to cut the stays. The hole on the pomp is at the back of the fork, which pushed the guard out a few cms.

I abandoned the fitting after realising I'd have the cut the stays and I have no tools (saw/file), I'd be best to get secu-clips for the rear too plus I may as well get the top of the rear guard drilled if I'm doing it properly. Better be worth it...

  • like the colour. Cheers

  • ^^ I bolted mine to the rear of the fork where there's a thread provided. It does kick the mudgaurd out a bit so you'll have to trim the stays. For this I used a pair of heavy duty cutters(snap on) borrowed from a mechanic friend. Stainless is a nightmare to cut using a hacksaw unless you have the right blade.
The rear one I fitted without drilling, then removed the wheel to line up where to drill. If you don't have a drill you'd probably get away with heating a nail or screw up on the gas and melting a hole through.
It was definatley worth the hassle. Mudgaurds are a must in the uk for at least 6 months a year. I fitted mine last winter and haven't taken them off since

Reckon you'll like it as you won't really care about it.

Incidentally just finished servicing my dad's Pompino, mini v-brake on rear (heels clearance), new mdcc approved chain, spotter's bar and cabling.

Just waiting for Koolstop Salmon brake blocks and it's done.

  • ^It is replacing my Leader.

I am moving everything across. Although I did order new Stronglight 2000's to replace the Sugino's I had. Much nicer, a bargain at £60 and I wanted to get away from 130 BCD cranks. Also ordered a new BB to go with the cranks and a 32c Gator and 32c Hardshell for the rear.

I won't treat it like its a precious metal but I will care about it as I will ride it more than anything else!

  • It'll be the heaviest frame you own, even heavier than the Leader.

  • Haha rep. Yeah it's all good, I want a tank. As long as I can go almost as fast as I can on the Leader* I will be happy.

    *Not very fast.

I think you be very surprised, the Pompino is one of those great example where despite the sheer weight of the frame alone, it still feel light and nimble to ride.

I loved the cowbell handlebar, such nice drop shape, even thought the reach is ridiculously short.

What's the fork? look rather decent.

I've done HCC001 in 1:13 on my super heavy duty Pompetamine, which is only about 5 mins slower than on a <6.8kg road bike on a course with 900' of climbing, and a corresponding amount of descending where the 72" gear is way too spinny.

for 650b Schwable Racer Ralph. Fucking hated that tire..

  • Having spent almost as much time cleaning my Commute/CX bike this season as riding it, I've decided that selling it and building up a SSCX bike based around a pompino frame is the best idea. I can't be bothered spending all my time cleaning cassettes and love SS/FG so I think it makes perfect sense.

    Await a CP.

  • As a SSCX id say go with a wider rim like the A23. 35c adventure tires, a shallow seat-bar drop and a 60 something gear would work. A pic of previous pom build

  • I'm building Archetype rims on Mack hubs but they're for another bike. This will have v-sprint wheels on it (maybe the archetypes for racing).

Nice bike. Though, bottle cage seems to be fitted upside down?

And the shop told me it was up side down so they rotated it, apparently right side up.

  • Another incarnation of the Pompetamine. This time with Ritchey flat bar and Odyssey flat pedals. Took it for a blast down Southsea common today and it's sooo much bloody fun. Got some proper off road rides planned soon.

  • fixed with flat pedals? ewww

  • Was ideal just for messin around down the common.

It's the right way up in your pics, elite cages always go that way. Little counter-intuitive but it works!
