Less than 1mm clearance at the pedal eye can be a problem when everything flexes under the awesome power of your bulging thighs. Assuming you're using the correct 107mm JIS BB, using a longer BB is an option but it messes with your chain line. The other options are to wait for the problem to manifest itself and take the paint off, or to adjust the chainstays with this

Oh, and the other thing you can do is us a Shimano BB-UN55 110mm x 73mm, with a 1mm shim under the drive side cup that should leave the drive side unchanged while moving the nds crank 3mm further from the chainstay

Wicked, just the person I was hoping to get a response from.
I'm not really bothered if the raw power of my bulging thighs will only take the paint off, but I wouldn't like it to dent the frame (or just make ting noises every rotation). I guess I'll just wait and see if it does happen, as I am using a 107mm JIS BB, and the hammer terrifies me. Wait for problems to manifest then, I guess.
Cheers for the rack by the way tester, I've just fitted it and it seems great.

I may keep a look out for longer BBs - the way I see it, chainline shouldn't be a problem (?) as it's single speed, and I'm pretty sure the freewheel I'm using was about 2mm further out than the fixed cog on the other side of my hub anyway - so if anything a longer BB might improve the situation?
(not ever ridden fixed so know extremely little about chainline)

Lemonade I wouldn't worry about the clearances, mine are super tight and haven't had any rubbing yet.
Wait, Irishane, are you in Ireland atm? I'm looking for omniums, and it seems no one sells them.
I'm living in Oslo now but I'm sure you could get the omniums through ontrack or anyone that can order from sram really.

Right, so after a day of bike building my Pompino is almost done.
Still needs some a few tweaks here and there, and when the sun shines (if it ever does), I'll take a photo in natural light, but for the meantime here it is:
I'm really pleased with it - especially as it was a very budget build.
Although I shouldn't count my chickens yet I suppose, as I've not even ridden it yet.

If it hits, it'll ting. Probably.
Some of the Dolan Pre Cursas in work have the cranks only just clearing the chainstays at rest - you can just make them contact by pushing the crank towards the CS and they hit when ridden, they ting.

This is what I want to hear!

This, not so much (although thanks for the info).

No problem, nice build by the way. Are they chromoplastics you have on and they rattle much?

And if you had Omnomnoms too, yours wouldn't ting, because the GXP axle is about 3 times as stiff as a square taper one

Thanks, yeah they are, and I will let you know once I've ridden it. They seem fairly sturdy at the moment, and I previously had them on another bike sans rattleage.

Omnomnoms were too expensive for me. I wonder if the On-One chainset that looks similar would be similarly stiff...

Should be, it has about as much metal of the same kind disposed in about the same way. If it doesn't fit, though, you can't do anything about it, whereas with square taper you can always fit a longer BB. For snug clearance problems, though, I'd suggest the SRAM S300 1.1, because it has the spider outboard of the chainring.

I think for cost reasons, I'll just stick with the Stronlight chainset and change for a longer BB if necessary.
On One, y u no make chainstays with plenty of room???

On One, y u no make chainstays with plenty of room outside???
Because they make them with plenty of room inside for big tyres. My T3 has yards of crank clearance, but won't take some of the wider toroidal rims.

I've got some of the on-one omnium knockoffs, which I'm planning to fit to my pomp. I'll let you know if it works out, but I'm confident (I seem to remember someone else in this thread has fitted them with no issues).

I have them, no problems at all.

Nice clean build Lemonade. Maybe the XL would have been a better fit? Looks a size too small the way it's set up.

Possibly. I'm only 5 ft 11, but I find without a high saddle position I get knee pain. But yeah it is a lot of seatpost showing.
But it's only a 10cm stem, and no setback on the seatpost, and I wouldn't want the reach to be longer (my road bike is 58 x 58cm and I'd much prefer it to be 58 x 56, but I wanted an even less stretched out position on this bike).
So it would be between the L with a lot of seatpost or the XL with a tiny stem - not a big deal really I don't think. I'm probably going to remove one of the spacers under the stem as well.
First impressions from riding it are that, thankfully the cranks aren't (yet) hitting the chainstays, and it's a lot of fun to ride. Very pleased with the build.

Bizarre, I'm about 6'3 and my Pomp is a large but i have hal;f the amount of post you have showing, not very long stem and bars with big backsweep.

Weird.
I must be all
and you're all

It's been through several iterations but here's the latest version
Well, when I say latest - the current has a Landcruiser at the front, a Marathon Plus at the back and a much better shimless seat clamp arrangement.

Look odd but rather nice.
Need some massive mudflap to complete the look.

Need some massive mudflap to complete the look.
Is that a euphemism?
I'm just putting the finishing touches on my Pompino (picture incoming soon), and the cranks (Stronglight Track 2000) clear the chainstays by about 3mm on the drive side and 0.5mm on the non-drive side. What have I done wrong / how do I fix this?
Edit - plus I've just realised, on the drive side, the chainring spider clears the chainstay by less than 1mm...
Are these gonna cause problems? :-(
