But there has also been advice as to where might be a better source of information.

Many questions have been solved, people can ask those questions and see what people say, this is no different. That's what Dammit is doing. if he wants to keep updating people with new information let him.
People may say try candle power forums for a light question or try xyz forums but they don't come in telling people that they should not be posting in this forum and to >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.

Am sure there are car forums that might be able to offer help, rather than using lfgss like a twatter account for updates regarding the volvo.
Threads started by prancer:
Solicitors we like
Dengue fever in France
Classic Album SundaysPot? Kettle?

Solicitors we like - was to help guide other cyclists who need a solicitor. Not exactly asking for advice.
Classic album sundays - sharing an idea.I did not then use them as a twitter feed...

People are interested in this saga, just like many of the other non bike related sagas on this forum. Let it go you are acting like a dickhead, again.

I too am eager to see if the valves are as broken as the 'ignore thread' button on certain members CPs....
How much will it cost if the valves are toast?
-

That's a bit tricky to answer, I've been trying to come up with a list of parts in my head, but it's going to be incomplete as I am in no way any kind of expert.
I'd think that I'd need 20 new valves, a head gasket kit (anaerobic sealant is about £50,000 a litre, no joke), new cam-belt, new valve seals, complete engine flush, plus of course the labour.
I sold my Cannondale Rush for £500 a couple of weeks ago- I am hoping that this money will pay for the remedial (in many senses) work the car now needs.

£300 of parts (if the valves are "pre-loved" and £300 of labour, basically.

Doubt it is the valves, it would make a horrible noise turning over. Stick a compression tester on there and find out.
If you have spark and fuel, sounds like it could be timing. Rotor arm slipped in the diz maybe?

Would you happen to have a compression tester (or would anyone)?
I asked the AA man to do so yesterday, but apparently they don't carry them
-
• #90
Yup - you're welcome to borrow it if you like.

That would be cracking- where are you based?

how would it be valves?
it would go bang if the valves were hitting the tops of the pistons. in a big way.

One trick to use is to spray some easy start in and see if it fires.
Is there a fuel safety shut off?
Was the ignition on when it went backwards?

Makes a light ping noise from experience.

just read all this. been there, done that, with a hired Audi last year in Andorra. Reset the computer, man, laptop, 10 minutes, covered by the insurance.
Call the volvo dealer.
It isn't likely to be mechanical. -

IIRC it's already running at 300bhp!
There have been plenty of other technical questions asked on this forum without this pointless line of questioning as to whether this is the best forum.
