  • Cheers for the offer Steve, all in hand tho :)

  • Kev's no longer at CCC, in case anyone goes in and asks for him...

I found out yesterday that Kev is now at John Atkin's in Leamington. I'm thinking of going to him for the wheel builds after having a chat yesterday.

They'll charge £30 per wheel (if using new rims/hubs) plus £0.80 per spoke (silver DT comp) which sounds pretty reasonable to me.

  • Say hi from me when you see him next, he sold me the orange coloured 'no name' frame i ride. You still up Mon & Tues?

Yep. Sitting in a hotel room right now :)

  • Hope you got out exploring, have sent you text unless your number has changed. If so drop me a line, i'm free this eve.

  • Replied :) Might have a workmate tagging along too :)

  • Seeing as I can't get hold of a Planet-X Pista rear hub I'm looking at some Novatec's. Any thoughts on these?

But then, there's maybe a possibilty of Miche Primato's ?

Thoughts on the best bang for buck? Probably going to get the rear wheel built first. The rim, spokes and build cost are going to be about £95, so really looking to spend as little as possible, but not compromising too much. Asking too much? ;)

  • They are all decent enough hubs. It really depends which one's you like the look of and how much you want to spend. Miche are Italian threaded lock-ring I believe which means that you wouldn't be able to use your current lock-ring. The new logo on the Miche hubs doesn't improve their looks either IMHO.

  • miche axles are also quite easy to strip the threads on (mild steel), and they are proprietary to the hubs and impossible to order seperately from the distro - i'm still looking for a replacement for a rear wheel.

I think they also use their own cog carrier system, but they might have changed that...
    Good enough hubs though.
have you considered going second hand? With modern hubs you can generally easily replace the worn parts (cartridge bearings), and it would obviously offer significantly better value for money

  • Don't like the Novatec at all, they look cheap!
    Miche look OK though.

  • There was some recent chatter about similar hubs and options in the "Spokes" thread...

  • Thanks guys. Didn't know that about the Miche hubs. I think that might rule them out. My problem is that the black On-one track hubs are different. One is gloss, the other a matte finish?! I mean, seriously, what the hell?

  • get some super record hubs steve ha

  • Splash out on some nice Phil hubs!

  • With the news I just recieved, I'll be holding off on the wheel build for a little while I think...

  • Uh oh... sounds rough, hope whatever it is isn't.

  • Chin up Steve.

  • You've not been sacked have you Steve? ;-)

  • Not yet.

  • I just ordered a second Mavic Open Pro. Best part? I got it for free! CRC still have them listed as £39.99, but I got it price matched to £29 (www.sdeals.com are selling them at £28.55). Conveniently I have a £30 voucher which CRC gave me after the credit card details cock up last month (dodgy transactions on my debit card after CRC were hacked). Cha-ching!

Oh, I kept my job btw :)

  • I always use paypal with CRC. Not because I support paypal, because they are bastards, more because by using paypal I can ship to an address where my card is not billed.

  • I will from now on. That's for sure.

I ordered a Stronglight Track 2000 Crankset. Not really what I wanted, but very cheap from Planet-X compared to everywhere else. It'll keep me going for now :)

  • I have one on the Pompetamine. You won't break it! It's a really solid crank and the chainring is good quality as well. I have a spare 48t Stronglight chainring if you need one as I took it off and went down to 44t.

  • I had to opt for the 49 tooth, as they didn't have anything else in a 165mm in stock. To be honest, I may end up doing the same and dropping to a 44t or similar.

  • 44 in flat warks?! htfu!

    ;)
