  • Did you not think to do a search first?

    From today;

    http://www.lfgss.com/thread58890.html

To be fair though, I do think this is the right place for the thread.

  • Merged, retrobitches

  • Christ.

That's the first time I've been merged without lube.

    I kinda like...

  • I wondered where my thread had gone. Sorry, I didn't realise one had been started elsewhere. It'd be nice to join up for a drink after the ride (better than before I think!). Let's hope for a lovely October day.

  • i'll be there and i'll arrange a meet for everyone like last year -

at peak we had about 10 brits in one of the bars i think, it was a little disorganised but will try harder :)

p.s list of people who are in

    1. tilover (tom)
    2. sam (my brother)
    3. mark (non-forumger)
    4. 105champ (john)

we're all staying together as usual

    1. general lucifer (maybe staying with us?)
    2. juno face
    3. teddy
    4. peter v
    5. aeneas
    6. JD
    1. tilover (tom)
    2. sam (my brother)
    3. mark (non-forumger)
    4. 105champ (john)
    5. general lucifer
    6. juno face
    7. teddy
    8. peter v
    9. aeneas
    10. JD
    11. shredder (135km)

BTW, will we know before 1/3 if one's registration has been confirmed? I think the site said that it is confirmed when one's name is published in the 'participant list' (it was very early Tuesday morning when I registered so my memory is a bit fuzzy), which currently says that it will be published on 1/3? Until then, I suppose that we are all provisional?

  • By the way, I'm struggling to find an exact date for the event!

    Is it the 2nd October?

Oh, and Tom - could you email some details of the digs you'll be staying at? They sounded lush, and although I'll probably be travelling without the family I'd like to price up both eventualities.

  • Yes, it's 2/10, cf., Article 1.

  • Thanks for that shredder.

Reading through that, it seems as though modern bikes that have vintage style will be allowed to race, as long as they are using vintage components.

It might be a better choice for me to buy a vintage drivetrain and fit that to my Bob Jackson Legend.

    Thoughts?

  • This bike:

  • Good question. I know that brand new Pashley Guvnors have been allowed entry in the past, so it's difficult to say whether vintage drive train is necessary on a vintage-looking frame...

On the housekeeping front, I assume that 'pectorals' means badges? And, in order to obtain one's pectorals, one needs to present, amongst other things, a copy of the entry form even if it was completed online. I didn't print off a copy. Did you all retain a hardcopy?

  • I didn't.

Maybe they email you confirmation that you are accepted. Tom's been the last couple of years -he'll know best!

  • ahoy L'eroica!

Myself and 2 pals will be representing for our first time.

Anyone got any survival tips. Accomodation, transport etc?

Thinking of turning it into a week long tour of Tuscany.

  • Thanks for that shredder.

Looks nice, I'd say re-route the brake cables 'the long way' but keep the triple and you're set?

I am also thinking which chainset is best to use, as there will be some +10% climbs and I don't really want to do that with a Campagnolo Record set with 42 inner ring as smallest option :-/

  • Thanks peter.

I'm just a bit concerned that the scrutineers will reject it on the day if they deem it too modern.
It has a nine speed block on the back, and this might cause some agro!

  • Tempted...
Is it going to fill up fast?

  • It might...

I think they are willing to pay back any money paid if you change your mind though.

Shredders post #33 has an attachment with the regs - have a skim read to make sure I've read it right, then just enter. If you decide against you can get your pennies back.

  • @gen. lucifer - hmmm... well I saw some pics of last year's edition with people riding bikes equipped with ergopowers (the blasphemy!)... maybe you should dream up some exotic handicap forcing you to use the 9-sp ;)

there's an Italian guy (andreaviola) on retrobike.co.uk forum that has entered many times, maybe he will be able to provide some insights into the jury's harshness...

or maybe some forumengers that have walked the line with their bike or attire? anyone? let us know!

    12. Skully (135km)

Yay, I'm finally doing this. Using 1976 Mercian with NR but 70s Phils instead of Campag hubs. Can't bloody wait.

  • good man!

    Looks like good crew.

Now, if only we could find a job lot of matching vintage merino wool jerseys...

  • yeah, you can run 9 speed and a triple and i would reccomend it - i rode with a guy yesterday on a 78 with that exact setup
i have a 46/52 front end which is just bearable but i am particularly skinny - i will however be buying a much bigger range cassette than last year

and get big tyres, my 36h wheels and 25c snapped 2 spokes form the white roads so will be running a lower pressure 28 or 32 this year

p.s under no circumstances will they allow spd's but everything else is pretty flexible - they may take away your privileges to where a race number and slap your wrists. at the start line the guy in front of me got fully turned away though

  • Nice one, Tom. Fount of all knowledge!

I'd best buy some vintage shoes pronto and get practicing.

    Bet this bloke was gutted:

  • aah, he was! lovely dutch german guy - he was practically crying because he'd done the full 205km and on the way back to the finish line in gaiole some dude opened his car door and boshed him - probably 100m from the finish. not a happy bunny!

  • these guys... ex pats living in belgium got these custom made by some 80 year old dude in a nearby village for 50 euros! there was 8 of them in matching merino tops and these matching shoes. snazzy (i was rather jealous)
