Dont forget, there's beginners / casual sessions on Tuesday evenings on the 5th floor of the Peckham Car Park, if anyone who went to this would like to play some more games.
Check the last page on this thread:

People will post there if there is a game organised, which there usually is. -

like most sports / games the pleasure you get from it depends on being reasonably good.
This isn't really the case at my beginners sessions. The atmosphere, the people, just trying it is thoroughly enjoyable. We all have pretty good laugh despite ability.

All the answers are better suited to the question "if you want to play polo but don't, what's stopping you?"
I don't play polo probably for the same reasons I don't play 5-a-side, tennis, squash etc etc... just doesn't appeal... And yeah like Jeez said, there are plenty of other things I'd be doing if I had the time.

The Tuesday 'casual' sessions at Peckham are for people who are just beginners, or who dont have time or want to play and practice three or four times a week.
I'm probably never going to be playing at a higher level but I still have fun, even "real fun" as you put it, even though I may never improve much beyond my current ability.I posted up the original poll in this cycling forum, as this sport of polo also involves cycling, so I thought there would be potentially more interest here; bike polo is slightly more relevant in this arena than soccer, cricket, martial arts, etc.
I dont think you have to be incredibly brilliant or talented to enjoy a game.
IMHO you dont need to be the cream of the crop to get a buzz out of a sport.
If you know how to cycle a bike then running around with a mallet isnt much further skill to develop to enjoy casual games. If your simple answer to the original question is "I'm just not interested", or you want to spend your time doing other things, thats fair enough, I suggest in future you simply just dont read any thread on the topic and dont bother posting in it... problem solved!

Even when that thread appears to be directed specifically at people who don't play polo?

And people wonder why polo gets a bad rep?

Does it though?

There are loads of polls and threads on this entire forum which are open questions to everyone, but sometimes I have no interest in them, so I dont read them, and post excessively negative remarks in them.

And as I think was discussed before, the aim of the poll was to reach out to people who want to play or are interested in having a go, but finding out what particular reasons that might be out there stopping them doing so.

YOU asked the question. Why do I keep seeing this shit in general.
Begone!

I think earnest, thin-skinned, try-hard polovangelists will be the reason I give up polo...

?? I wasnt trying to be aggro about it TS, its just common sense, right?
Like - there's a thread in the Misc forum asking something like "anyone here like punk music?"
I'm not going to wade in there and say "No, I'm not interested in it, I listen to other things, I might like to listen to it if I had more time, in fact there are so many genres of music that I'd like to get around to exploring more of, but punk really isnt up there at the top of it, there are several others that take precedence" or something to that effect.
I just move on to the next thing. The internet is great like that, you can pick and choose what you want to read based on your interests.

Yeah but, you can't ask for feedback from non polo players then tell them to fuck off elsewhere when they tell you what they think...
Or maybe you can? I dunno...
-
• #265
True, but again, as I think was discussed earlier in the thread, my intention of the poll was just to tease out semi-interested players to a beginners thing, not to jab a finger in the chest of anyone who wasnt playing. If people arent interested then thats all good with me! I'm not trying to polovagenalise.
-
• #266
polovangelise... thats a hard word to spell.
-
• #267
I prefer polovagenalise... :o
-
• #268
Looks our polovagenalisation got shafted out of general.

kevin, I'm second guessing Jeez here, but this probably came out of a conversation I was having with him on Sunday, about polo, and he said that he'd played it before in the brick lane days, and didn't now.
I don't think that your response is exactly welcoming towards future polo players, so I guess it's a good thing this is now in polo, but I think it's a shame, any feedback should be welcomed, and it's one less place for new players to find the sport

The only reason I don't is where i live (not in London) the only things round here that are ss are dj bikes and bmx's, never mind race bikes with fixed or even ss.....

i meant it as matter of fact. Not intending to be dismissive. But right from the go people read into the worst from that thread, real bad vibes no matter which way it went. All the way through that thread i was positive so please dont slate me on it. And fuck that guy bleak reference, earlier on he'd been abusive, he was just champing at the bit to get some grief back. I'll stick to 24 in future. Those tags are right that poll was a waste of time.

• #272
if feedback is just abuse or pointless moaning i dont see how thats useful or to be welcomed either.

nice moan.
/thread still feels like someone jabbing a finger in yer face.

What is 24 please?

I am going to look at the positives of this poll. Roolbg, CowHen, Shinigami and xanderh are now polo players, which is a good thing.
Joni: Forum 24 is the polo forum
how about slightly grey, overcast and threatening with rain but never going through with it?
