But this is not the bike I ordered?

  • I placed an order for a Cannondale CAADX Ultegra at the beginning of this month.

£1,399 from Evans, so with my CTC card I would get 10% off and it would be £1,259.10.

The bike came with 2011 Ultegra and the plan was to swap this with the 2007 Ultegra on my SystemSix. The rationale behind this being that the CAADX was going to be the winter/CX bike, so it made sense to put the new shiny groupset on the sunny weather bike.

Essentially I'd get two (sort of) newish bikes out of it- happy days.

Then the Evans website changed- it still showed the picture of the bike with Ultegra, but the description now said that the bike would come with Sram Force.

Bit odd, but cool- I'd quite like Force.

I popped into Evans today to see if the bike had arrived yet- it had not, but a 50cm version had. With Rival. Still for £1,399.

The chap behind the counter phoned head office who confirmed that this was correct- there was no such thing as an Ultegra model for the UK (despite it being on the Cannondale UK website at the time I write this), and that they were all Sram Rival.

So- I could accept the bike as is, I could reject it and ask for the 105 version at £999, which to me is the equivalent of Rival, or I could bin it altogether.

I don't want to put Rival on the SystemSix, or 105.

So even if I accept it or get the 105 I would feel let down.

    Meh, basically.

    Anyone got a cunning plan?

  • Demand Force like it says on their website.

  • The chap in the shop did not seem to think that I would get anywhere with that.

I'd be very happy to take the bike with Force.

  • threaten them with trading standards or false advertising or something

  • If you ordered and paid for a bike with Ultegra then they should provide you with one (which is in their power). Someone with some knowledge of the sale of goods act will be along shortly I'm sure

  • they pretty much have to give you an ultegra version.

I've actually been this route with Evans before- they lawyered up and sent a letter stating that a full refund was all that was needed for them to discharge their obligations.

I've only paid £50 so far.

  • They don't have to give you anything - they can just refuse to sell it to you.

    edit: oopps ^ that ^

  • Relax, ride what you brung. Forget evans, forget cannondale.

Spend the money on a holiday or fine dining or your lady. Or just save it for a rainy day (burst pipe)

  • I am buying a new boiler at the moment- the bike was meant to distract me from the amount that the boiler was costing!

  • have you considered training?

  • Buy the 105/Rival version and use the money saved to start a Dura Ace fund for the SystemSix.

  • Rival version £1,399
    105 version £999

  • Maybe go direct to cannonfail and ask them what the hell is going on?

  • 105 - it works well and you're halfway nearly to that shiny Dura Ace groupset.

  • Nowt wrong with 105 on a winter hack. [/mytuppence]

  • Get a refund, moan a lot that they've dicked you about twice then buy that Specialized Ed was harping on about somewhere...

  • Fuck Evans.
Get your money back, buy a planet x with sram red for £1300 and swap the groups. Done

  • or buy a ribble alu winter training bike with Ultegra for 949 and swap... you're winning either way

  • Or just buy a DA groupset, put it on the nice bike and ride it everyday! :)

    Hmmm

or buy a ribble alu winter training bike with Ultegra for 949 and swap... you're winning either way

change group to Ultegra. You could do it with Force for cheaper probably (edit: force comes to 957)

  • rest of the 'special edition' Ribble bikes here: http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/publish.asp?what=specialedition&page=1ra

they're pretty good bog standard winter/training frames from what I gather. probably not as nice as the Caadx, but you're saving £400... wheelset? :)

  • Just get Campag Record for your existing bike and sell the Shimano to chumps... ;-/
