Ah Man! Totally been waiting for this ride all year (missed the last one as I hadn't got enough road miles in and would never have managed it)! Shame I'll be on my honeymoon, on a harley in the Grand Canyon that day...

I'm already looking forward to this. Herne Bay yesterday seems to have been a great success. But I've been missing opportunities to geto the sea.
Will update list from proper computer. -

Hi everybody, sorry if this comes as a surprise and I hope no-one takes it personally.
Please only bring a fixed or single speed bike on this ride.
Sorry to change the rules late in the day but after Herne Bay I have realised I never want to lead a mixed country ride ever again.

Hey! what's the deal?!? I was really looking forward to this ride, but as I said to Kris on the ride to Herne Bay, I ride fixed in the city, but my knee gives out after 30km so I ride geared for longer rides. What's the problem? What was so bad about the Herne Bay ride?

rides are more fun when everyone is on the same "format" otherwise the group tends to get fragmented as people on gears shoot off down hills and get over excited off the front... i myself have been guilty of this.
it can be done if the geared riders are more discplined... i think if people have good reasons perhaps exceptions should be made as long as they stay with the bunch.

People get excited and jump off the front when either fixed or geared. Fixed only rides are a lot of fun though, and its johns call as he organises the bloody thing!

far more likely (irresistable one might say) with gears. -

im guilty of doing it on both. Will rein myself in if I do this ride.

Essentially it boils down to this, I started organising rides for fun.
I knew a bunch of routes around the city and it seemed a good way of sharing my enjoyment of riding fixed and London with other people.
Nobody needed to show up on a shit-hot bike with all the gear but everyone was welcome nevertheless.(To me anyway) LFGSS started out as place you could meet up with other people and just have a fun casual roll-around, go to pubs, share interests, whatever.
Now I have got these two longer rides going.
I want these rides to continue in the same vein as my city ones(albeit minus the heavy in-transit drinking).I want people all to be going around the same speed, not minding that they will be waiting for people, being courteous and safe ride partners.
A lot of that was missing on Sunday from the people riding geared.
I am not impressed by being passed without warning by an average climber descending like a boss(on 53-11), anyone can do that.
To top it off I had to listen to someone on the train back from Herne Bay mouthing off about brake-less riders(of which there was me, KRZ and one other on this ride). These rides are not meant to be races, or training sessions, or to be taken at all seriously, you do not need any special equipment or clothing.
There are a dozen internet forums for that sort of thing. This is a casual, shorts and t-shirts ride to the coast with fish & chips and beer waiting and that is all people should expect and prepare for.
You are welcome on gears if you have a problem with your knees etc.
For the able-bodied none of the distances we are covering or the riding speeds warrant them and I would prefer you brought your fixed.Thank you.
Was going to let you know when we got about 5 people (most of our longer rides crew). Well up for it.
