  • they should make them stand still for two hours in full kit and webbing in the noon day sun. see how much they like their supa x-treme army training then.

  • Army training is old hat. Chain gang fitness training is where it's at. You spend the weekend in a quarry manacled together, breaking rocks on a diet of stale bread and water whilst getting kicked around by guards. Massive weight loss guaranteed.

    It's not cheap though.

  • It's just a gym class outdoors. For fuck's sake.

I'm sure you're all incredibly fit and active and work out without the need for extra motivation.

    ^this

  • Well said James - Not my cup of tea at all, but i have a couple of mates who have done this and really got themselves in shape, mostly before getting married.

  • my motivation is the cake i treat myself when i'm done.

  • ^^ do they still go now married?

Like Gym subscriptions it's not a sustainable model for most customers. But a very good profit making one for the business.

There's masses of free exercise out there, and it amazes me how some people can only be motivated by spending money.

  • if you spend money it keeps you going?

people have spent money on stupider things than getting a bit healthier.

    JML springs to mind

  • They use public space, don't pay for it - they should. They once told me I couldn't walk my dog where I was walking him, as they were using it for running around. I told them to fuck off and have a word with the dog. They didn't. Pussies they were, for all the shouting.

    hahahaha

walking through the middle of the plebs FTW

  • You get loads of old people doing tai chi in public spaces in Japan - I don't really see the problem with people getting fit en masse in British parks. The screaming and bellowing from the instructors is a bit off, but if people are outside and getting fit, then it's all good I reckon.
Just not my cup of tea.

  • They tend to practice tai chi in China, its of Chinese origin. (Luci, they don't all look the same!)

  • They're not really screaming and bellowing though.

  • Basically, Luci you've come out against it. Laughed at it, because that's what it looked like everyone was doing. Heard someone else say "actually, what's the harm" and have wobbled back on the fence.

I know work's dull, but pick a side of the argument and you can have more keyboard warrior skillz.

For many iIt'll eventually (quickly even?!) become a dull routine, their mates won't be so impressed anymore that they're doing "military" stuff, and it'll take about 6 months to cancel the DD after they've stopped going.

Actually, damo, if you have a skim through what I wrote, I agreed that people might look a bit daft scrabbling through the dirt listening to an ipod/iphone app.

I also said that I was a bit feeble, and might benefit from a workout.

Slogging through a public park whilst being shouted at really isn't my bag, but I still stand by the fact that if people are getting fitter rather than getting fatter then it's fine by me.

The only wobbler is you, you fat cunt.

  • Fat cunt might be a bit harsh....

I'm grumpy coz my ribs hurt.

  • I've seen some of these in Richmond Park. The demographics would appear to be roughly the same as classes in gyms, ie 80% women. If it gets them out and about, good luck to them. It's not for me but niether are gym classes.

Drop the fat from fat cunt and I'll not be so hurt.

  • Luci

Damo is short, but not that fat.

His levels of gashitude do not meet mine.

  • Lady friends of mine swear by these.

Paying > makes you turn up.
Fake squaddie shouting at you > makes you put in a bit of effort.

    • they go there to pull.
  • I think I'd like it, but I'm too tight to pay £12 a session for it. Plus (and most importantly), its fucking cold out. I don't want to get out of bed on the best of days, let alone to roll about in some half frozen mud in the wee hours of the morning. Now take it someplace hot, and I'm in.

  • I tried a free lesson about two years ago. It was, surprisingly, quite good.

    I didn't pull though.

The difference is that the people running it are making a lot of money. My issue isn't with people exercising in parks - that all good, it's with a company making sacks of cash and taking over large areas of public space that they're not paying for. If you want to run a festival, sell stuff, have an event, etc. for profit on, for example, Clapham Common, then you have to pay for the privilege. But they don't. That's all. If people get their jollies from being shouted at by someone who's pretending to be a soldier, then go for it. But if they try to tell me where I can walk my dog, then they can and will fuck off (not technically true, the dog's been dead for three years, but you get my point).

  • Drop the fat from fat cunt and I'll not be so hurt.

I don't actually consider you a cunt either, to be honest.

    I'm just grumpy.

  • I didn't pull though.

    That's because you're a fat cunt...apparently

  • note to self: must try harder at being a cunt
