pretty much. I can get in on the groupsave. kings X is a quicker train though...
-
• #378
That does sound like a lot. In fact, more than I'm willing to pay! Need deal.

If you have a young persons card, liverpool street - cambridge is £9.70 return on super off peak saver same day return. You need to specify what time your comming back though
-
• #380
It's £30.50 if you buy online and specify both train times (leaving and coming back)? £20 odd with a railcard. Super cheap if you travel at weird times (potentially not possible due to tourney).
-
• #381
Open return with a railcard is £20.15
Alex - where did you see that price?
edit- oh just saw that was a day return not open/next day
-
• #382
20 is what I'll pay. £35 is the price of an advanced train to Paris! I fucking hate British rail companies.
-
• #383
You could've paid £9 or so if you'd booked in advance with fucking British rail companies, just saying...
-
• #384
Someone posted there were no advanced tickets to Cambridge?
It costs me 8 quid return for Oxford. different company though.
-
• #385
As far as I know there are no cheap advance tickets london-cambridge. Don't know why, but they're always the same, just peak and off-peak (and super off-peak).
This.

Jono I have that £30.50 online ticket, but I went and got my tickets the other day from the station, and they dont have a specified time on them. You reckon I can jump on an earlier train than the one I picked?
-
• #387
Mark just cycle to Cambridge. If you leave now you'll be fine.
-
• #388
Ah, ok, that is indeed odd, my bad.
(Bus would've been £1 in advance though. You love busses Mark.)

Think i'll aim for the 7.28 as well. I have a network railcard. Do we need bike bags?
-
• #390
My network rail card is expired. Can we make a list of people who want to do groupsave, or someone who has a network rail card so I can tag along?
I'm good for anytime (prefer not too early).

Not sure about bike bags, depends on the numbers per train... Liverpool Street's usually easy, maybe bring some bin liners (and a 15mm) just in case?

Ok, trying to talk to the right rail company (East Anglia) about booking bikes on the London to Cambridge (from Liverpool Street) train is a freaking nightmare.
15 minutes and 6 transfers later: "Sorry you cannot reserve bike slots on that route and we advise you to take some bike bags as there will only be a maximum of 2 slots per carriage: 4/6 in total and they are quite popular."
Bin bags and arriving in plenty of time it is then, don't wait until the train arrives to take your bike apart (or not) if you're traveling in a big group... the train won't wait and they won't let you on (if the guard sees you).
All the information was abismal, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a completely different scenario tomorrow morn... does anyone take this route regularly? The way I remember it, you could just pile in to a quiet carriage and "make do" with bikes?

Cheers, Jono.

i asked my mate and he said they can't do shit. He's been on trains with massive bike piles. That early shoudl be pretty empty though. Is the 728 the fast train? Which is better, because less stops means less dicking about moving bikes from doors.

I booked the 7 44 kings x train on my own - so ronery.
See you lot there. -

Generally the train from Liv St is cool with bikes. Just walk 'em on.
Bring bags anyway though as coming back is harder to do that and they get funny!I'll be at station tomorrow and will buy my ticket there.
If there's 4 of us we can try do a group buy ticket.Looking expensive now for 1 hours train ride...

I slipped an Iarnroid Eireann gate guard a tenner before to let me on with a bike after he told me I couldnt bring it on.
I wonder if the Liverpool Street lads would be so easily swayed. -
