Naive but beautiful.

just watched their bleed process video, terrible, I am going to push it from calliper with a syringe, will I go to jail?
-
• #8280
That's what I'd do, but they do know what they're on about. Just do all the things a few times until it works.

I had my rx4 done from the bottom and it still had air trapped . Its not easy but persevere . Bottom up and get a vacuum to the lever funnel with plenty of tapping .

Uch DOT isn’t so bad really. People seem to think it’s a bit like the acid that the guy in Robocop fell into….
I run sram/dot brakes on all my bikes. Never once has it burnt my skin, and I don’t wear gloves when bleeding brakes and it’s never damaged any paint on any of my bikes.
If it’s left in contact with a painted surface for a prolonged time then yeah, it will bubble paint. But if your daft enough to get dot fluid all over your bike and not wipe it it with a damp cloth then maybe leave it to the lbs…
I don’t mean to start a mineral/dot oil argument here though :)
(Yes I know it’s bad for the environment/kills fish etc)And just or balance, sram are shite, I say that as someone who runs sram on all my bikes 🤷♀️ but with a shimano cassette and chain on the mountain bikes.

I once saw saw a drop of DOT dissolve a whole baby in seconds, be careful.
-
• #8284
ha! I dont have much against DOT other than having to own another bleed kit, I guess I can live with that.
-
• #8285
On the plus side, SRAM bleed kit is a lot better than shimano

This is actual footage of me spilling it in my shed
-
• #8287
You don't need separate ones, just clean everything after use.
-
• #8288
You obviously may need different fittings, but the syringes are cheap AF anyway.

• #8289
Yeah I know I shouldn’t keep my bike in a shed, but it’s the only space I have…
I have surface rust on some virtually new rotors because shed. Noise is horrible but brakes still effective. What are my options to fix this?

Fill the room with silican gel and sand plus a humidifier . Maybe a leaf blower to dry the bike off quickly
-
• #8292
plus a dehumidifier
FTFY

Live with it for now, get stainless when they need changing

Gotcha! I’ll double up by wearing a wetsuit, neck a couple of pingers, crack one off and put jacobs cream crackers in my mouth to ensure maximum dehydration

sounds like a fun afternoon, can I join?

Shimano mt200 question,
Rear hose not connected when bought new so can route internally, lever has a yellow plug to pull out when connecting and hose has glue/silicone!!? to seal hose. Looking on shimano website it says just bung it In the lever and tighten, brake is good to go, doesn't mention removing hose seal, can anyone shed any light on this. -
• #8298
You'll have to trim the hose no? I've always snipped it off as part of the trimming process.
-
• #8299
I'd rather pay a small amount to the LBS to get it done properly than having a mile of spare hose bobbing in the wind forever

If it happens to be the right length, I've just poked them through with pokey things with no ill effects, but it's unlikely to be the right length.
All hope are DOT and always have been except the RX4s designed for shimano levers.
