What does that mean? Will work on my Ultegra?
-
• #6928
no ultegra needs straight connection not banjo, i mean you will just need to cut off the banjo and install a pin and olive
-
• #6931
yep thats what you need for ultegra
aliexpress pin pusher is a must unless you have a bench & vice

ffs. I’ll look up a how-to.
What bleed kit do I need? I need something that will work with both shimano and Hope calipers since I’ll have one of each for the meantime -
• #6933
dunno what RX4 comes with, if nothing you will need the bleed block (i use the same shimano one between my shimano and TRP) and an aliexpress bleed kit OR epic bleed solutions, thing is though if you get shimano specific bleed kit, the caliper end syringe doesent come with threaded end which is whats needed for RX4.

If you've got a vice, just use clamping blocks, cut with a very sharp knife and tape the pin in gently. Pretty easy.

I have the basic version of this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000379194346.html
But i'd suggest get the upgraded version as it has metal hardware. You only need two syringes if you are going to do anything Sram but you'd need a separate kit anyway as thats Dot5.1
This is the pin pusher/cutter: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001269379248.html
Works well. -

I always managed with the yellow blocks, plumbers grips (not sure if that's the name) fresh stanley blade and a hammer.
It's a bit awkward holding the grips with hose in one hand when hammering the pin in, but it's not like you change hoses every few weeks.Admittedly it's nicer with a vice.
But everything is nicer if you have a vice. -

But everything is nicer if you have a vice.
Generally very true, not that a vice helps if the brake hose is internally routed through the forks or frame, and there's no way of getting the vice close enough to the build stand. I've got away with using the Shimano yellow tube blocks and a G-clamp in the past, but it wasn't exactly an elegant process.

I use a pair of mole grips with the blocks and whatever is most hammer shaped to hand at work, and I do quite a few, helps to widen the hole a little with an awl or similar.

Sharpened screwdriver for me. You have however, described the daily method to get shit done.
Time is money money is time hobnobs are damned fine. -

Sintered for those who wanna go fast*, resin for those who wanna go slow.

resin for those who wanna go slow.
Glad I’ve made the right choice sticking with resin.

• #6943
But then you would measure up insode of frame, take out, cut and insert pin, put back in and secure hose at both ends? Unless I am missing something.
-
• #6944
If you put the olive on before inserting the pin, it'd be tricky to slide through the frame. If you're confident you can slide the olive into place after inserting the pin then that's an option, yes.

Don't know what you guys are talking about ...
I have one of this http://www.tektro.com/mobile/products.php?p=104 funnel and a small bottle of fluid for courtside burps and hose shortening.

• #6946
I have that tool, it presses pins but not as well as that aliexpress one
-
• #6947
No complaints from me since 2015, user error perhaps? ;)
-
• #6948
I always had to tighten using allen key, never just works by pinching on the grip
-
• #6949
And just because of that you bought a new kit? Bravo!

Obvs
IME Kevlar are only used when DH MTB in the alps. Better braking but don't last very long. I can easily go through four sets of pads in a week but then again I'm doing circa 100,000 feet of descending in 6 days riding.
For road bike use in (assumption) London/the home counties then sintered for longevity.
