  • Actuation arm is all the way back, the fact it is an issue on the rear brake as well which I havnt even connected a cable too yet means its unlikely to be cable slack?

  • Take the pads out and see if you can spread the pistons at all, can also try a turn clockwise on the adjuster, I seem to remember mine being a little weird and going slightly wider before making the pads closer. After that I'd try easing a drop or two of oil out by opening the bleed port and spreading the pistons, sounds like the opposite of mine which didn't seem to come with quite enough oil in and I can't get full wear out of the pads, so far I've just chucked new ones in as they're cheap and I'm lazy.

  • Thanks, I'll give it a go

  • Spread out the pads with a large flat head screwdriver.

  • These two bolts give you adjustment, I didn't want to break anything but as soon as I took the pads out and saw the pistons were all the way in I figured these must be adjustment bolts.

incase anyone else buys juin tech f1

  • Or they could be the bolts to that hold the two halves of the calliper together.

    This.

It sound like the brakes been apply without the rotor in place thus pushing piston too far out.

No you just need to push the piston all the way back with a flat headed screwdriver carefully.

  • Facepalm 😩

Well now I don't know what to do because the pistons were all the way in and there was still no way the disc would fit without rub

The pistons were/are totally flat against the calipers

Maybe there's a half mm to be had will keep trying!

  • Again, push both piston back in.

If you're struggling, go to your local bike shop.

  • ive had the exact opposite problem with these brakes.

the gap between the (new) pads and the disc is cavernous! could park a whole other bicycle in there. do i need to get some more oil into them?

  • Possibly, you can take wheel out, pumo the brakes and see if it push in a bit and fit wheels in.

Were the brake lever hitting the bar?

  • They don't really work like that Ed, no auto adjust, hence the adjustment knob. Mine were underfilled too, still are but I just throw new pads in when they run out of adjustment. There's not a massive volume of oil to play with or a reservoir so could be susceptible to differences in factory fills.

  • What pads are people using with TRP Spyres? How much does choice of pad affect noise levels? Was embarrassed to brake in the rain this week.

  • Did not read that it’s the juintech, whoop!

  • Cheap shimano.

  • B01S ftw.

  • Thanks @edscoble, @snottyotter - bagged a set of Bo1S.

  • Wondering if anyone in here can help. Got a Straggler frameset with I.S. tabs to mount brakes on.

I have a Rival Hydro groupset with post-mount calipers that I want to transfer to the Straggler. I am guessing I need IS > Post-mount adapters for the front fork and the rear of the frame.

Thing is, I can't work out what size adapter is needed - my rotors are both 140mm. Anyone got a clue?

  • If you want to run a 140mm rotor then you need the smallest going. I think it's possible with the TRP adapters and I've got a whole bag of them you can sift through if you want. Let me have a look.

  • Ugh actually you might need something wild to do IS to POST 140 on the front

I've got a load of the L2s though and you are welcome to one or more.

  • Hey Howard, thank you for the info - very useful. Before I saw your reply I bought a couple of adapters (like the L-2 on your image). I took another look at the bike and think I'll probably get away with only needing the adapter for the Surly fork. To get around the 140 issue I bought a new 160 rotor - the old one was pretty ruined and found one cheap on ebay.

Also thank you for the offer of the parts, very kind of you. Hopefully what I've got coming in the post will do the job.

  • I have a set of new Shimano disc brakes( first ever disc brakes). I need to replace the front hose for cargo bike and most likely shorten the rear.

The brakes came with all this stuff pictured. What else do I need to buy other than a new hose to do the above?

  • If you have to ask, it’s best to go to a LBS.
